After reading most of the stickies and reading about stuff elsewhere, im still a bit confused. I get the nicotine dilution, Im starting to understand the flavor thing, but im still confused when it comes to PG/VG ratios and the like.

Can someone break down a 50PG/50VG 30ml bottle of 18mg juice for me in percentages? for arguments sake, say like an average Vanilla and a 48mg nic base.

I just need a basic chart to understand this a little better, like this:

Nic Base: __%
No-Nic Base: __%
Flavor: __%

How would these percentages work their way into the Nic base? would the nic base be either PG or VG? what about the no-nic base?

You need to download the ejuicemeup calculator for the percentages. That is what I use. You can google it. There are also youtubes that show how to use it. You basically put in that you have let's say 100% PG Nic. at 48 mgs., the percentage level of nic you want it to be say 18 mgs, the amount you want to make say 30 ml, then you put the percentage of flavor you want in (some use 10% or 15% vanilla) depending on taste, and then you go lower and put the percentage PG/VG you want it to be in the end. For example, I do mine at 60/40, some prefer 70/30. Then you press on the calculate button and it will tell you exactly how many ml's of each item nic, pg, vg, and flavor to put to get your mix. I hope I haven't confused you too much but it's fairly easy once you get it figured out with the calculator.

I'm not a DIY Pro but from what I've read, I think people that vape mostly 100% VG use water or vodka to thin it some and I've also heard that it can produce a stronger throat hit. I personally don't worry about that part of the calculator at all but if you are into vaping 100% VG then you will have to read up on that section further.

They are all used as dilutents to thin a mix. They are not necessary but some people like to use a lil alcohol or "pga" (pure grain alcohol or everclear) because it can add some throat hit.

thanks guys/gals, i think ive got it, now just to figure out my supplies and flavors, who has the best flavors?

What do you like to vape? Here's a couple of great sites with excellent flavors and a lot of choices.

Vaping Zone has great super concentrated flavors in an alcohol base solution (that means you'll calibrate your ejuicemeup calculator's "drops per ml" to 47 drops per ml and change the water/vodka/PGA to 2.5% (VZ super concentrates recommend 2.5% flavor...some people use more. I use 4%-5%)

DIY-Flavoring-Alcohol Base | E Liquid Flavoring-Alcohol Base - E Cig : Joye eGo & eGo-T | Boge Leo | Cartomizers | E-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes | eGo Tank

ecigexpress also has super concentrated flavors..."Express Flavors": http://www.ecigexpress.com/flavoring-flavorsexpress-c-16_96

You use MUCH less of these flavoring than you do others.

I am using The Flavorers Apprentice and Capelas flavors. I find the Capelas to be a great beginner's flavor, as it is hard to make a bad mix. I am using it at 12% - 15% in a 50pg/50vg 20mg juice, and adding about 5% vodka, to thin it down and make it drip nicer (for me). Start with single flavor mixes, to get a feel for how much flavor you like, and remember that every flavor is a different strength. You might like 20% Sweet Watermelon, but only 10% Chocolate Fudge Brownie. Good luck, and have fun!

Watch the CoOps, too. Kenetix has run several flavor CoOps, where you can get a bunch of different flavors for a minimal investment. He is great!

herd great thing about the super concentrated flavors and ECX has better prices

Yes, ECX also has super concentrated flavors but the two lines are different and not from the same manufacture. I haven't tried any from ECX so I can't comment on them, good or bad. I have seen posts from experienced diy'ers that have a few of the same flavors from both and they are different. Looks like the people that are trying them seemed to like them.

Also re your ? re nicotine - When you order it, it should give you the option of all PG nicotine, ALL Vg Nicotine, or a 50/50 pg/vg mix. Also this may be a very important step when first starting to save you frustration later. The very first thing I did was filled up 9 different small 3 ml bottles with different pg/vg mixes and only a few drops of flavoring (so it wouldnt be totally tasty) but used no nicotine. I did a bottle of 100%pg, one of 90pg/10 vg etc all the way to 90VG/10pg and tried each one until I found the mix I liked the most.
At first I read alot used 50/50; so since this was the most common - i thought thats what I would do but I noticed things like severly chapped lips, dry skin, coughing, upset stomach etc - so I did research and found these to be common with PG. Thats when I did the experiment to see the difference between pg/vg percentages. You could also just do 4 samples like 20/80, 40/60, 60/40, 80/20. This was a HUGE help to me.

I use Perfumer's Apprentice's flavorings also. And as far as DIY'ing, it's basically just trying out some different flavors to see what you like the most until you figure it out. You should do small amounts at first like 3 ml's or 5 ml's til you see what percentages you like. After awhile you can just sniff a flavor and tell about what percentage you should use it with and you get the hang of it.

Best is to use water. Up to 20% I believe. Alcohol in high concentrations is not good to vape. Like vaping vodka.

The best way is to get a teaspoon put water in it and put one drop of flavor in teaspoon then taste. Easy and approximates vape flavor.
