Is it safe to use flat tops on a stingray? The inside (part that touches the battery) of the positive pin on the mod is huge. Can it short out? Seems like it would cover more than just the exposed section of the positive on the battery. Thanks.

Flat tops work just fine in the stingray. I use mine regularly with them, if I use the hybrid adapter just have to be extra cautious to make sure the 510 connector on the atty is sticking out just a little more than usual - for my own piece of mind.
Im talking about the original stingray not the stingray x. No hybrid adapter.
The top cap floating pin is almost, if not identical between the stingray and stingray x.
I've got a stingray and have used LG, Samsung's, and Sony Vtc4s all flat tops without an issue. I've also recently started to use the hybrid disk with some of drippers and flat top batteries without issue.
