Hello everyone,

I've ordered from Alien Visions and also from Vaperite and some of the juices produce this nasty, stingy alcohol feeling on the throat. I imagine that this is the so called "throat hit" but what causes this feeling? Personally I am not fond of this feeling at all.

Juices from Alien Visions,

Boba's Bounty - Awesome, no complaint and I might just order a barrel of it. No stingy feeling and not too smooth also, it is just right.

555 - Getting a stingy feeling with this one.

PG Hype - Given as a bonus and it tastes great but it also produces a stingy throat hit.

Juices from Vaperite,

Organic Tobacco juice - Not here to offend anyone but from all the hype this flavor has been getting, I definitely expected more out of it. Almost no taste and it just didn't work for me, although it didn't produce that stingy feeling. Again, I believe taste is subjective for each individual and this juice is definitely a no for me.

VR4 - Aaahh the famous VR4. It tastes awesome, a bit caramely and it also produces a mild stingy throat it but it is bearable.

So yea, I really want to get it down to science as to what causes this stingy feeling and how can I determine if a juice will produce a stingy feeling?

So far, I am content with Boba's Bounty (no question about it) and I can handle VR4. I really want that throat hit without the stingy feeling.

Note: I vape 18mg to 26mg and I use a Reo mod.

I got more juices coming in from Alien Vision and also trying a few juices out from BWB because of reviews.

Thanks,

Louis

Just received my new batch of Boba's Bounty from Alien Vision and it came in a unique bottle that looks like its used for a nail polisher, and at first I was like "I didn't order a nail polisher" haha.

Also received my BWB Maple Tobacco and so far it is really good and thick but I still feel a bit of that stingy throat hit.

PG, high nic both give that ripping TH, but your PV will have lots to do w/ it too.

I don't have a mod, but have a kr808d1, and a mega ego....using the exact same juice, the 808 gives almost no TH, while the ego gives a hard TH. even w/ low pg, low nic juice the ego's TH is pretty extreme! maybe trying a different PV just to experiment might help to see if it's the mod or the juice causing the sting? high vg will probably smooth out the TH too, and make it less "stingy".

I think I know exactly what you are talking about with the stingy, kinda chemical throat hit. It gets to my sinuses too sometimes.

I have noticed that it is completely different from "normal" TH that you get from a warmer PV. It is definitely not PG or VG that does it, and it is not nicotine either from my experience. I think it is an additive some companies use to add to the taste, it just so happens that some of us have a hard time with it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out exactly what it is because every company treats their formula as a "trade secret". If I ever figure it out, I will definitely post it here on ECF. It could be alchohol but I haven't experimented with that yet, I think that will be my next project.

Here is some of the stuff I have found it in:

Madvapes cantaloupe, green apple, pear and top banana (but only with nic in them, 0 nic doesn't seem to have it for some reason, which is strange because Madvapes pure nic and VG or PG does not have it either)

Strictly E-juice banana hookah (had it BAD)

The prefill carts that came with my gotvapes kr808 "on the town" starter

I think there is some of it in some of my tobacco flavors, but the flavor in most of them is so strong I usually don't make it past that, lol. It didn't seem to be in any of the flavors I got from BWB, and it seems to be in LorAnn's strawberry flavoring.

Not sure what the substance is called either, but now that you mention it, i recall on one of the DIY flavorshack threads where a customer wanted a really hard TH...Dawn mentioned she can make the TH as smooth or harsh as a customer desires...so it seems that there is definitely an additive that can bring on harsh TH...wish I could find that thread to see if the additive is mentioned.

As clutchjunkie correctly pointed out, good throat hit is not "stingy" but nice and warm. Too many people try to advise others about throat hit and really haven't experienced good throat hit themselves. That's why you can't simulate "good" throat hit with additives to eliquid. Warmer vapor, produced by more power from better batteries provides good throat hit.

I make my own juices at home, and i have found my lungs and throat have issues with flavorings that have artificial coloring (go figure), juices made out of lorann's flavorings (nearly all contain an artificial color) make my throat sting and feel very scratchy and eventually make my lungs ache like back when i used to smoke analogs and had to many in a day. Juices made out of PA's flavors dont affect me this way because all the flavors i have ordered from there so far do not contain any artificial dyes.

I'm not sure if there any vendors out there that use Perfumers apprentice flavors exclusively, but i'm sure the websites that offer organic e-juices probably dont have artificial dyes.

Whenever I vape high nicotine, that happens. Low nicotine, doesn't happen. I base my assumption on that.

You might be the exception. I think what the OP described came from some additive in the liquid other than nicotine. If nicotine caused a chemical taste that was uncomfortable, no one would be using higher nicotine levels. The most common level used is 24mg.

It has to be some type of additive that I really wish I could avoid! So far I've noticed it in a batch of Gourmet Vapor juice. At first I thought it was only the almond flavored juices ... so I switched out and used other brands to let that entire batch steep. I went back to it and picked up a coffee flavor, and even IT had the sting/burn ... whatever additive.
