Stinkies are ruining my marriage! Where to begin?

Hi. Complete and total newbie here! Been reading some posts and I'm still clueless where to begin but hubby and I are early 40's 1-2 PAD for many, many years. I smoke Marlboro UL's and he smokes Camel Wides. We do not smoke in front of family or friends or neighbors (why? because it's stinky), so when we have a gathering, such as Memorial Day BBQ at in-laws, my husband turns into a monster after 3hrs and all heck breaks loose. He has a nasty nicotine fit while I'm able to handle it. We decided enough is enough and it's time to quit. So I thought perhaps we could try e-cigs for starters and hopefully wean down. I bought him a LOGIC 1.8 black label and me a 1.4 gold label. He doesn't mind his, mine tastes like a cigar to me. I read a bunch of posts here in this amazing forum and it's giving me anxiety just reading about all the options. I'm not so sure I want to get into liquids and mixing and dripping or dipping, whatever that all is. I think we'd both be happy with something simple, but effective, with the ability to wean down, and easy to pick up at the local smoke shop, gas station or 7-11. Is that even possible? Looking forward to ANY advice anyone can offer, including any self-testaments to quitting. Thanks in advance!! :)

I dont think youre gonna be able to get anything from a gas station, but im in Canada so I dont know if its different in the states. Anyways if you guys wanna quit dont start with an Evod like everyone will probably say, main reason I say that is I tried that at first and failed horribly. After I decided to try again I bought a Aspire nautilus and an Itaste Svd. It would probably run you about 80-100 including some ejuice but its totally worth it. Since getting it I havent looked back and im now 35 days smoke free from being a pad smoker. This is my opinion on what you should get but if you want a cheaper alternative then get an Evod with a variable voltage ego device and you may like it...hope this helps you, vape on!:D

Some of these people are fanatics and make it seem a little overwhelming for beginners. Just go to a vape shop or online and order a rechargeable device for 30-50 bucks each (at least 500Mah) and get their most popular flavored e-juice in 6mg and 24mg strengths (30ml each- maybe one menthol) then you can adjust the strength by mixing. Start out at the 24 and go down. (I don't really know if this is what you were asking but maybe I will catch a lurker!)

I'm an enthusiastic Vaper. I didn't manage to even dent my 15-a-day habit with a cig-a-like (like LOGIK).

I needed an eGo kit with clearomisers... THEN it was OK. Folks on here will know what's available. :)

I think it's very unlikely you'll find something at a gas station that satisfies you - but you can certainly try. I started with a throw-away cigalike from a smoke shop (said 2 packs worth, lasted a few hours), then bought a Blu rechargeable pack from Walgreens (yuck, yuck). Went online and ordered a V2 kit, got that - yuck - then researched some more and bought online a Halo Triton starter kit. That did it, until shineyitis got me and I ordered more, bigger, and better stuff.

But, I can tell you that from the day I bought that throwaway cigalike at the gas station I never had or wanted another cigarette. And that was after 40 years of a pack a day.

So, for some of us it's just that easy - if you want to do it (actually, I wasn't even trying to quit - it was just so easy for me), and as someone who'd tried patches, gum, etc in the past it was a miracle that it happened this way.

You could go to a local vape shop (they're everywhere), and see if they have an ego type kit. But in the meantime you might visit our Halo forum and have a look at what people there are doing. Halo makes some great gear (although there are of course lots of other choices), and since they sell juice as well it's sort of a one-stop shop place.

The forum is here:

Halo

And the Halo website is here:

http://www.halocigs.com/

Good luck! And welcome to ECF:D

(You'll have to have 5 posts before you can post in another forum, but it's easy to do that by just replying to all the posts you get here!)

Started with Joyetech eCabs. Never picked up another cigarette. Happy with them for a year or so. Now I have 4 of them and I still use them. Moved up to an Evod kit. Loved it. Now I have 6 and I still use them. Got a mini Protank 2 and loved it. Now I have 8. Moved up to an MVP2. Liked it so much I got another one. Not interested in mech mods or huge tanks although I'd like to add a dripper for tasting. Anything you begin with that's a step above a cigalike is a good place to start. An Evod kit is a good, reasonably priced, place to start.

Do exactly as Amanda recommends. I really didn't get away from the cigs until I found the kanger aerotank. I needed something leak free and reliable that didn't suck air from the threads and then I found vaping bliss. I would also like to recommend whole tobacco alkaloids, to help you and hubby quit, brings a little something extra to vaping that I couldn't explain.

Good luck and if you need any advice feel free to pm me.

I was in your shoes and was about to buy an Ego/Evod kit but was convinced to skip them and jump right to an MVP , very happy i did because it saved me money in the end and still satisfies every vaping need.

The kit comes with everything you need except juice and you can get it for $39.99, battery last days before needing to recharge and how can 700+ five star reviews be wrong , read them for yourself below, many say i wish i started with this device .

I would definitely suggest visiting a brick and mortar vape shop and talking to the people behind the counter. For a new vaper there's nothing like hands on help. You can find out which ones are in your area here; New York - vapormap If the shop selection overwhelms you, although they're actually located in Westchester County, I can definitely suggest Cherry Vapes. That's not because of any particular product, but because I've met the owners and know they're great people that will be more than willing to help. Good luck with your search!

Be really careful with buying from B&M 's since in my experience they charge considerably more for the same products you can get much cheaper and many i have been to were not overly helpful or knowledgeable .

Worthwhile for sampling juice but other than that, disappointing. I went into it blind and relied on folks here to tell me what to get , they delivered but the juice selection can be confusing , best bet is if you can't sample is to order a juice that you know you most likely will like the flavor of like spearment or coconut etc..

First off, hi!

I started with an ego type kit - I was advised to just try something! Think simple! LOL, so I did. And it was a pretty easy learning curve, just as I needed. I was confused by the e-liquids... so many variables. Again, I was advised to just start somewhere, then I'd know what I liked.

A lot of this is trial and error. I know right now, it may seem like you could end up buying a lot of things that you end up not using, and throwing a lot of money away. Trust me, it's an investment. I spent more the first month to 6 weeks than I have since.

Start simple. Whatever you get, people here will be able to advise you as to how to get the most out of it. There is no one favorite that fits us all.

+1 on all the above. I started with (an expensive) cig-a-like kit almost 4 years ago. It wasn't until I "upgraded" to an eGo style battery with a tank that would hold a moderate amount of juice (choices among many lovely flavors) that I could FINALLY put down the cigarettes. I was close to a PAD smoker for over 25 years.

If you can find a store that will let you sample juices DO IT. That will give you an idea of what kinds of flavors would be appealing to you (and help you avoid the cigarette craving.) Even though I smoked menthols, I don't care for tobacco (even menthol tobacco) flavors. Now that my tastebuds have actually "reset" themselves, I'm SOOOO enjoying fruits, desserts, and coffee flavors. I have about 40 different flavors in my current arsenal, just to avoid the "boredom". Of course, this is just ME - you may find that one flavor that does it all for you - if/when you do, FABULOUS. I was fortunate that I didn't need a very high nic level (many of my juices are 0 nic, but I do have a little unflavored nic mix that I can put a couple drops in a tank when I'm so driven.)

You may need to do a little experimenting (which I now find quite enjoyable). Start with small bottles of various things, in order to find your "vaping nirvana" You can go as simple or as complex/creative as you like. Keep asking questions - LOTs of lovely people out here who will happily answer your questions.

Good luck to you and the hubby - you've taken a great first step by even venturing here :)

My wife and I had been using the logic brand for years, you will not find anything similar to it in taste besides Dekang RY4 juice. But that's ok because once you start sampling juices you will see what you have been missing.

If you like the portability like logic I would go with an ego kit as mentioned above or a vision spinner kit which is similar but you can adjust the voltage. You couldn't go wrong with a kit in either of these choices as they charge the same way as a logic does and have a similar profile.

Really its a matter of opinion when it comes to mods/larger devicees, but I've never had problems with innokin prodcuts, I jumped right in and bought a 134mini and couldn't be happier, except its not portable at all and requires large batteries and a non usb L-ION battery charger. So again a preference/price thing.

Also I highly recommend a bottom dual coil tank/clearomizer (BDC) as it will not mute your vapor like a top coil with wicks. (My opinion)

But all that said, you will save money over the disposable carto's like logic once the initial buying/testing liquid is done.

There is a whole thread in this forum somewhere about the top RY4 juices, if you don't have a local vape shop I would check those manufacturers out.

I would like to welcome you to ECF first, so hello! If a cig-a-like is working for you then you're set but for your husband I think he needs no less than an eGo style or an MVP2 with a tank of some kind. I'm leaning more towards the MVP2 since it has many variables that he can use to help him kick the habit. Juice will be the most difficult thing to get right. As many have advised find a Brick & Mortar shop where you can test some flavors before purchasing. If you do shop online try a RY4 flavor as far as tobacco's go, it's a good place to start. I would also suggest getting a flavor other than tobacco. Find a fruit flavor you enjoy. If you're currently at 2 packs/day I'd suggest 18mg-24mg nicotine strength to start with. I started at 18mg and it was adequate for me and I smoked 2 pks/day of full flavor, your's and your husband's needs may vary. I'd recommend a high nic and a low nic so you can mix them to get a lower mg dose as you wean down. Take your time and try not to go too fast, your body will let you know when it's ready. Halo products use a different threading than eGo and is less universally adaptable. You can find most anything with an eGo/510 threading but you're stuck ordering from Halo only if you go that route. I wish you the best and please ask more questions if you need to!

I agree, visit a B&M shop and see what it looks like and taste like (most have tasting stations where you can sample different juices). Find what you like, juice wise, and get a bottle in at least 12mg nicotine, and maybe one a little higher for when the urge to smoke really takes hold. Order your equipment on line after seeing what you like.
Some B&M shops actually have some pretty decent deals on starter kits in Ego batteries and clearomizers. It is also helpful to have somebody walk you through the process of filling and maintaining them.

Good luck and hope you find something that works for you.

I suggest itaste vv3 from 101vapes.com a better option but bigger in size is the itaste mvp.meaning it lasts longer on one charge, over two days. And it has more power, you get a more satisfying hit.
Pick a simple clearomizer such as some evods.
Get some evod coils.

They are rechargeable you can also use a cell phone car charger to charge on the go. and you can still use it while its plugged in.

I reccomend mistereliquid.com for affordable and better than average juice.
I also reccomend no less than 12 mg nicotine level.

I have never been able to vape at 18 mg. it effects the taste too much.

If you look at my signature you can see, I've been thru a lot of different style batteries.
Good luck with what you decide

It would be highly unusual to find anything but overpriced gear of dubious quality at a smoke shop, gas station or convenience store. Even some specialty brick & mortar shops can be sketchy. If you don't wish to buy online I would suggest these two brick and mortars. Both have been in business for quite some time. They are highly reputable and knowledgeable.

Going to a brick & mortar also affords you the opportunity to try juices so you can find something you like right away. Finding juices one truly likes is winning more than half the battle in making vaping successful.

Empire Mods - Flushing NY
Fluid Vaper - Bohemia, NY

For starting out it is hard to beat the Innokin iTaste MVP 2.0 or VV 3.0 to which herb linked. They are both very simple to use and allow you to adjust the warmth of your vape with the push of a button. That can be very important in finding the type of vape that you find personally satisfying. Also, some juices taste best at lower temperatures and others at higher temperatures.

For something to hold your juice I would recommend the KANGER AEROTANK MEGA 2.0 OHM - 3.8ML if you choose the MVP 2.0 and the KANGER AEROTANK MINI 1.5 OHM - 1.3ML for the VV 3.0. These tanks produce very good flavor and allow you to adjust the airflow to your personal preference.

This review of the preproduction models will let you know how the Aerotank Megas and Minis work. I have a production mini and it doesn't have the loose airflow control mentioned in the review.
