I've tried them before. The wicking is kinda critical. You want to make sure you get the entire coil covered, one side of it I mean, don't smother it... I prefer the wick on the inside and air holes facing directly into the top of the coil... As for the wick, it's easy to stuff too tight because you're typically jamming it between the coil and the posts. Kinda like any wick I guess... Not too much or too little... Need to keep the coil wet and too little exposes parts of the coil and let's it get too hot while too much will compress it and keep it from wicking as fast as it should.

As for being impressed.... They worked decently, but wasn't anything to go nuts over.

There are a bunch of coils that are hard to make or wick and do little better than a simple microcoil but they look different. I look on most of them as an exercise in patience building them and a way to show how much you practice builds.

I haven't found any yet that i think are worth the trouble to build. I just try them when I want to test my patience.

Agreed, it's not too bad to make if you use a mandrel that has a stopper on the back. But as for being worth it? I've played around with a lot of different coils, and yeah, you can tell the difference. Some provide a warmer vapor, more flavor, denser vapor, etc.. But in general I still fall back on the micro coils.

I personally find you can make a lot more difference via wicking than you can with the coil. So in general I stick with micros and play around with wicking more than anything.
