I just noticed that one of my attys (a kayfun 3.1 clone) wasn't making good contact on my eVic. The thread is stripped! Other tanks —Aerotank, nautilus– screw in all right but don't feel firm.

The 510 is made of chromed brass and I guess it's just worn out with use, not that much anyway so I must give the quality of the contraption a huge thumbs down (very upset, I'm a careful guy and know more than a bit hands-on mechanics).

Has anyone experienced this? There's an old thread with something similar but without a conclusion. Other than that the mod is working quite well and I like the flexibility and information. I already searched for the replacement control head but it's backordered everywhere.

Sending it to Joyetech is no option living in Mexico. More expensive than getting another and they will probably screw the living lights out of me with another control head plus labor and shipping. I have a telescopic mech that will accomodate a Kick on a 18350 or 18650. I have also access to a good machinist whom will surely make me an extension (or even a complete mod) out of a suitable SS tube for a few pesos so I'm all right there.

However, I'm not about to let the thing go so easily. I plan to disassembly it as I return home and have access to decent tools. I'd like to think that repacing the connector is no big thing but I'd prefer to anticipate what I might find inside in the department of connections, soldering, etc. Also, most important, where to attempt the disassembly from. I see a couple of screws on the top deck and a removeble insulator on the bottom. The screws might not be for disassembly but to hold the firing switch or board in place so going in blind is a definite no-no. The bottom isolator I would prefer to leave alone as it may take me through a route harder than anticipated. There's also the control ring in the way to be considered.

I see a small union between the 510 connector and the deck so there may be a way in but right no I lack proper tools to attempt remving it by unscrewing.

Suggestions? (I know, I should have gotten a Provary but it costed almost threefold and didn't have VW, nor any of the other bells & whistles that make the eVic such a pleasant mood to use, so please don't rub salt on the wound)

Any comments much appreciated. :(

I don't know if this is recommended, but just a thought. Why not get an airflow controller and screw it onto the evic permanently? If it feels loose, wrap some copper foil onto the airflow head (not sure whether it's recommended) and screw it in again. Saves the hassle of dismantling the evic and something going fubar.

I have 10 of the airflow heads just to protect the threads of my devices, since I read so many stories of how the threads of <whatever device> strip easily.

Many thanks Danny! I had never heard of those. Care to point me to somewhere where I can get a look at one so I get an idea? Where can I get them?

I got mine from Health Cabin. You can google airflow controller and see which sites you prefer

But...as you have said your 510 connector is stripped. The 510 airflow controller won't be useful since your 510 connector is stripped. What you need is an ego to 510 connector. Does it exist? I don't know. LOL

I was thinking of fixing it by means of conductive glue. Something like this...

^^^^^^^^ you beat me to it.

Better get it while you can. It's kinda difficult to find sites or stores selling these. Most carry only the 510 to 510/ego adapters. This is only the second time I've come across the ego to 510/ego.

Edit: on second thought, the airflow controller might be better if you use 510 toppers most/all of the time. With the ego to 510 adapter, the weight of the topper would cause the top part of the adapter to weaken over time and may break. Secondly, your evic may topple over easily.

The glue you mentioned will probably work. Personally, I prefer to use copper tape as I can still remove the adapter and jam in a new one if it goes kaput.

So, I would still suggest the airflow controller. While you're at it, get some 510 to 510/ego adapters if you use clearos.

Copper tape seems like the way to go provisionally. On the other hand, my situation seems to be a common one. I wonder why this didn't come out when I did a forum-wide search last night.

Among the possible solutions applied with varying degrees of success according to the linked thread, besides what's already been mentioned here, is Helicoiling the thread -probably numero uno in terms of permanence. Second, as it involves disassembly, is a total replacement of the 510 thread. I have a few ego-510 adapters at home so as soon as I get back I'll check just how brave I'm feeeling.

For starters, I think I have one of these 510 to eGo and that would provide an ugly but serviceable solution. I can maybe even turn a custom aluminum tube to raise the tank sitting level of the eVic. Piece of cake.

What really pisses me off is that Joyetech has known this is a common malady of the eVic since the start and, while they have addressed the software issues as they are now in the fourth iteration, the faulty thread issue, affecting a high percentage of users judging by the comments, has not been addressed yet.

Update #1:

Scratch the Helicoil. Found out that the 510 (M7x0.5) is proprietary. :( Not gonna happen anytime soon. I'll have to wait till Monday to check if the copper tape is available in hardware or electronic stores in the Guadalajara Metro area. Today I saw a wealth of electronics hardware shops in the downtown area, while I was getting a pair of 18650's. Maybe, just maybe... In the meanwhile I succeeded in attaching the Kfun to the eVic with a wrap of Reynolds Aluminum wrap that I found in the kitchen. :) Good until I need to remove the atty... :(

Update #2:

Just came across this treasure... Now I won't be going in blind in case I have to.
