I'm currently using ego batteries and am satisfied with them. But I've been looking at some basic mechanicals because I like the idea of simply switching out batteries instead of throwing away the whole thing when the battery dies. (I decorate my egos and hate having to throw it away simply because the battery is worn out.)

Anyway, I've noticed that many of the mechs/battery tubes have no obvious buttons, then I realized the button was on the bottom. This seems very awkward to me, you basically have to push it with your pinky, correct? And what happens when you set it down?

Sorry, I know I must be missing something but it seems very weird to me.

I have a K100 mechanical that does have a bottom button. It does have a locking washer thing that screws out to prevent the button from being depressed, thus firing. With the K100 and a igo-l, there really is no setting it down as it isn't the most stable of set-ups in a free standing situation. As for pinky firing, it really depends on the size of your hands I guess. Personally, I set the PV in my hands as I would a pen and depress the button with the tip of my middle finger.

Thank you all very much, especially IrishUpstart for the picture. I really thought I was mis-understanding something. I'll definitely look for side-button models.

Seriously, I think this is strong negative for many women, given that our hands tend to be smaller.

On a side note, is there any real difference between a plain, non-VV/VW 'mechanical mod' and a 'battery tube'? Or just different terms for the same thing?

One additional thing to consider regarding my picture is that the k100 shown is in 650 (long) mode with a single 18650 battery. With a 18500 battery it would be half as long making it small hand friendly. Even still, my very ungraceful lady who has hands of a pixie elf is able to fire the k100 long without too much trouble. She does turn away as I do giggle at your form though.

15mm shorter is far from half as long.

It's still not half as long, you're just taking 30mm off the battery length lol.

My wording was off all around. Will chalk this one up as an epic fail. What I was trying to convey is that a shorter battery will shorten the telescoping tube by half. Not overall length. If I could, I'd post photo of all the sizes but not easy to do on phone atm.

Years of piano playing has given my pinky an edge in the bottom button world.

Usually I curl my pinky in and use the third knuckle (the one closest to the nail). It's always been the most comfortable for me. With bottom buttons, using anything but the pinky feels awkward, at least for me. But then again I have spider fingers.

I really gotta clip my nails... oh well.
