Trying to get my protank to work good on my mech mod. just wrapped a coil that came out to .7 ohms and wicked it with cotton puff balls, no flavor wick or rubber piece. taste kinda crappy, guessing its because the lack of air flow? idk just trying to find a good set up seeing how I have two of these.

did 5 wraps of 28ga, might try it again with cotton yarn and see what happens

It's not like I do 1 ohm vaping with Kanger clearos on a regular basis - more as an experiment just to see if I could, but...

Try twisting two strands of 32ga at about a 16-18 per inch rate, with a good anneal after the twist - then (about) a 2.3mm diameter 5/4 wrap around 2.5-3mm silica. I get right at 1.0Ω+/- with good air flow, no wicking issues and no flooding.

I've tried it with cotton and bamboo and for what ever reason it just doesn't work all that well... too much heat and not enough air flow for low temperature wick in such a confined space - I don't know, I always burn them out pretty quick, which is why I tried silica.

Yes, it gets a bit warm and it does empty a EVOD or T3S pretty quickly... but pretty impressive flavor. ;-)

think I have a good set up going. Stopped using the drill bites everyone recommands for micros and just used the allen wrench I normally use to make my protank coils. Did a micro coil wrap with 28ga and it sits right at 1ohm. used cotton puff balls and didnt use much of it and no flavor wick. soaked it down with some 70pg/30vg liquid and let sit. fires up great in on the mech right now and so far no leaks or spitting, flavor isnt bad. Just threw in some bobas to see how it works with that and so far so good. hoping it keeps going good

There ya' go. Everyone talks a blue streak about the number of wraps... but seldom does anyone seem to discuss coil diameter vs. wick roll diameter. I guess folks find something that works, everyone copies it... and few question if there's a "better way". Hell... there's always a better way! ;-)

Cheers,

yup, I have built so many protank coils I lost track lol. For the ego im happy with 32ga and cotton puffs though. easy to build and taste good. But since im pretty much just going to use the mech now it would be nice to find a way to get the PT working well. Guess ill find out if it will happen or not. might have to suck it up and get a RBA, just hate how big those things are

You can stuff a 6/5, 32ga 2 strand twist in a PT/EVOD head and get a nice, easy 1.3Ω-1.5Ω depending on how tight the twist is... but like I say, in that confined space, I use silica and not packed too tight.

I use nothing but carto tanks (a 3ml carto tank don't look too bad on a eGo :p) and RDAs anymore... all the clearo/glassos are in the back corner of "the drawer I never open". ;-)

just tried it again, tank is low and still no gurgle or flooding :) flavor is coming around as well and no burnt taste as of yet. Right now its good enough for a travel set up if I dont feel like dripping. air flow is great as well which might be why its working so well. Now I just need to buy more juice

I sometimes use my protank on a mech for out and about. 0.8ohm micro coil with cotton and i'm getting great flavor. I initially used the stock ruber gromet but after experiencing that horrible burning rubber taste i tried using one of the spare silicone insulators from an AGA-T2 and got rid of that horrible taste.

You can also uh .. circumcise the grommet.

That makes sense. In my trial and error rebuilding the Protank my first instinct was making a micro coil for the sole purpose of avoiding hot legs and not burning the insulator but when i tried to push the ohms down to 0.9-0.7 i still experienced that awful rubber taste. I guess the coil itself was generating enough heat to burn the insulator.
