Sub Ohm Vape Liquid

I am sure this question has been asked a thousand times. I just recently purchased a new mod. I am not even sure if mod is the correct term. I got an Eleaf 50w with an Atlantis v2 with a .5 ohm coil. I put my same ol' halo in. I AM DYING. I can't use it. I mean I know they say low nicotine. Obviously trying to use the rest of my 12mg is not going to work. I get like no vapor production and just cough and cough and it is bad and embarrassing. The fact of the matter is I am just dumb and lazy lol. My whole time vaping I went with easy rechargeable and refillable mods. I thought this would be the same idea and set up. Obviously these is a lot more to sub ohm vaping than I realized. If anyone has any recommendations for brands or liquids I would appreciate it. I like a menthol minty taste. I am not a fruity type of gal. I really don't know how to make my own liquid. Never though I would have to. I've been vaping for years on the same liquid. I've been googling and binging and that is just dangerous. I have gathered I'm looking for more of a VG blend and lower PG. However, idk any good brands now that I am having to get specific. Thanks in advance.

I'm a toodle puffer for life, but I do know sub-ohming takes some getting used to. My power vaping friends are impressed that I can take a hit from their rigs without coughing (usually). They still cough some, too. Quite frequently, actually.

But yeah, I'd say you would need to go with higher VG, lower nic and stay away from stuff like extra flavor shots. My friends frequent a local shop that advertises a higher VG and lighter, more mellow-flavored juice that sucks when I try to vape it at 12W.

Also, are you doing direct lung hits? If you are doing mouth-to-lung, that's prolly why you aren't getting much vapor. That's also the reason I don't sub-ohm.

I'm a pretty new sub-ohmer myself. My first attempt was with an Atlantis V1. I hated it, and gave the tank away. It was too hot a vape and I couldn't get the juice flavor I got with the Nautilus tanks. Then I tried a Kanger sub-tank. That was better, but I got tired of the juice leaking out of the tanks. I gave those away.

I recently tried the Uwell Crown tank and now I'm hooked. A few observations:

  • 12mg NIC is pretty high for sub-ohm. I would use a 3mg juice - 6 at most.
  • With a .5 ohm coil you should probably be vaping at 18-25 watts. If you're not increasing the power from what you used with the higher resistance tank before the Atlantis, you won't be generating enough power/heat for good vapor.
  • Halo juice profiles are not advertised, but most are probably 50/50 blend. I've used a lot of them. (I love Kringle's Curse and Subzero). Higher VG blends are better at the higher sub-ohm temps. I am currently vaping a DIY 70/30 Kringle's on a .33 coil in the Crown and it's real good. Belgian Cocoa is one with high VG as is Shamrock. If you have one of those, I'd try it for improved vapor.
  • If you didn't, make sure you prime (saturate) a newly inserted Atlantis coil then let it sit 10 minutes in a filled tank before trying to vape with it.
  • As @leftneck indicated, for sub-ohming, you pretty much need to do direct lung hits. When the settings are right you should see good vapor and get good flavor.
I suspect the coughing is caused by the high nic level. Drop the nic as I mentioned, or try diluting your 12mg juice with VG to reduce the nic percentage (will also dilute the flavor).
