Hi guys,

I'm Carlos, from Germany and I'm a Vapaholic :) and in need of some help.

I just got a smok XCube Mini with a SMOK TFV4 Mini and Dual Coil RBA TF-R2. I'm in need of some assistance as I'm quite new to Sub-Ohming.

I'm looking to know how good this setup is for sub-ohm vaping and I need to get a proper and safe battery to go with it as I've been doing some research and I read that sub-ohming can be dangerous without proper mods.

To anyone who can help me, big thanks,
And keep on vaping.

Cfs

Hello and welcome to the forum @cfsgarcia. Glad to have you here!:)

The SMOK XCube Mini goes up to 75 watts.
  • A Sony VTC4 2100 mAh (20A CDR cell that can be pushed to 30A safely) would be a good choice (See the first link below).
  • Or you could go with the LG HB6 (true 30A) if you wanted the extra headroom.

All three of these sites say the vtc4 is a 30amp CONTINUOUS discharge battery. many conversations on this forum confirm that too. Not sure where your getting your info from.
Sony VTC4 18650-30R 2100mAh Battery w/ Flat Top
Sony 18650 VTC4 3.7V 30A 2100mAh Battery FLAT OR BUTTON
Sony VTC4 18650 30A Continuous Discharge Battery

Had to edit my post. NONE of the Sony's are 30A no matter what you see posted on vendor websites. Sony has never declared the CDR of any of their cells.

I trust bench tests. Read some of @Mooch's bench tests for the Sony cells.

I clicked that link which brought me to his profile. I don't know where to find his test results. However the latest question on his profile was
"so the HG2'S would be ultimately best choice for high wattage regulated devices then and thermal issues would only be concerning low subohm mech builds then?"
his response was
"For high power vaping, over 20A per battery, I'll always recommend the VTC4. That would be roughly 65W in a reg mod and about 0.17-0.2 ohms in a mech.

I wouldn't recommend the HG2 for anything above 20A, regulated or mech."
If the vtc4 was only a 20 amp battery why would he be recommending it for an application where he advises AGAINST a hg2, which we all know is a 20amp cdr battery?
Edit: did the vtc4 test at a 25amp cdr? because hes clearly implying that its more than a hg2.

Because the LGhg2 3000mah is a 20a CDR cell that should not be used/ pushed beyond 20a.
Whereas the vtc4 2100mah is a 20a CDR cell that has the ability to be pushed to 30a.

As capacity increases the amount of amps that can be safely drained decreases, no way around it.
Basic simple explaination, increase in mah = decrease in safe amp drain.

Then why did mooch suggest a vtc4 over an lg hg2 when the hg2 wasn't enough?
    I don't get it.

The VTC4 had a longer record of handling abuse than the HG2 and suffers less damage when abused. The HG2, being an LG battery, already runs a bit hot at 20A. I just feel the VTC4 is a better choice for higher amps with the HB4 being the king for crazy high amps.

The VTC4's are 20A batteries when you compare performance and temperatures against other batteries. Its capabilities when vaping far exceed that 20A continuous rating though.

So, for a SMOK Xcube Mini which runs up to 75W I could safely use a Sony VTC4 2100 mAh for sub-ohm vaping, right?

I like Samsung25r and LG high drain batteries.

Be responsible to your batteries. Learn battery safety.

Lastly you do NOT need a build at .01 ohm build to get a satisfying vape.

A good build beats a super low ohm build every trip of the train.

I build at .8-1 ohm so I can safely throw the RTA on almost any battery.

My high VG juice and my .8 ohm build at 9-12 watts out performs a .5 ohm coil at 40 watts using 50/50 juice.

I remember someone saying similar words below.

Most people on YouTube need 80-90 watts to generate those clouds because they are lousy at building.
