Anyone tried it? I can't seem to find any info on the combo using the search. Getting tired of buying coils so I figure it's time to move on to the rebuildable section. Haven't had much luck so far rewicking the OCC coils, I'll eventually get it figured out. I'm more intrested in not having to mess with things every 2 or 3 days. I get about 10 to 12 tanks before the coils start to clog and have been running 2 tanks on 1.2ohm coils so I can use both of my batteries (MVP20W and MVP3). Between the juice and the coils I'm spending about the same as I was smoking 2 PAD. That was fine for quitting, but that's pretty much done now so it time to start cutting the costs down.

YeahYou will save money and time and effort if you clean and rewick sooner.. I bet the reason you are having issues is that you are waiting till the coil fails to clean and rewick.. If you do it when it's just dirty, it goes alot easier. If you had been rewicking and cleaning at 5 tanks instead of 10 you would likely still be using the factory coil at month 3.

That's probably true, but the reason the Ego's never worked for me was because of all the hassle that was involved to get through a day. Now I can top off my tanks when it suits me and the batteries will last for days if I run them all the way down. The Subtanks are much better that the Nautilus minis they replaced, and I know there's even better things beyond them, but until I've gotten all I can out these things I can't tell what I want for the next.

Maybe my idea doesn't work, then I can look for something else. The pre made coils are easy to change and maybe there's nothing that will work any better, but I won't know until I try it or someone else says they did it and it didn't work.

I don't think that type of wick will work properly in the ST OCC's. It would be very difficult to get the coil in with it already wrapped around the wick, and doing it after would be even more difficult. I guess if you removed the top piece of the OCC head it would be easier, but doing that repeatedly might ruin it over time.

I rebuild mine using Labo cotton (basically KGD) or Carolina Blend from the Cottonman, both work great. Rebuilding the OCC is pretty straight forward, you can use 26g kanthal or nichrome. 5 wraps spaced with an ID of 2.5 to 3.0 (I use a 6-32 machine screw, an 8-32 for larger ID) will put you right where you want to be ohm-wise, if you are shooting for sub-ohm.

Just don't dry fire the coil, if you do you run the risk of burning the insulator. Torch the coil before you put it in, which should even it out. Also get the OCC's with the red insulator, the white ones will work but I have found them to burn easier. The pin that goes in the insulator is also longer on the red ones.

I'm not having luck rewicking the OCC with cotton so I can see how it would be a real challenge with something else. I was really looking for any tips on the rebuildable head, but figure I should ask about both incase anyone has tried it.

I have some of the red coils, just not sure where they came from. I got the tanks and extra coils a day before I went on vacation and unpackaged everything to make it all fit in a case I carried my vape gear in.

Agree with others, rewicking the OCC heads will save you a ton once you get it down. You stated that you're spending as much now as when smoking 2 PAD. How much juice are you going through? High End expensive stuff? If a coil lasts you 10-12 tanks ...I'd think that alone would be a 3-4 days which is a lot less than $10 a day for smokes.

Anyway... here's a good video that was posted in a different thread of wicking the RBA. I'm not sure ready x wick would work - just not sure it's flexible enough nor does it have the ability to span out. It might work, but I see that being more used in applications where the wick itself is kept more straight. My opinion.

Just an update. After a few tries at getting RxW to work on the rebuildable Sub Tank deck I gave up, the best I could do was to get 2 or 3 good pulls before the dry hit came and then I had to put it down for 15 to 20 min. So I went back to the OCC coils.

Bought a couple of REOSmods this weekend so I got to searching around for how to make them work and got in the mood to try something. After a little bit of work I managed to get the wick out of an 1.2 ohm OCC coil without needing to do some major work to the coil when I was finished. It was centered, evenly spaced and required no adjustment. So I figured the large RxW might just make it through. I cut it at a 45 degree angle and it twisted right trough, it worked first try. I left about 2mm hanging out each side and once i clipped off the extra I push that in. So far it's a very close taste to the OCC coil, a bit muted but that seems to be improving. The first ten times I picked it up the first pull started with just a touch of dryness before the flavor started and then worked fine.

As for the cost, at the B&M I get 2 packs of OCC coils for $45 (yes that's a bit much) and they last 2 to 3 weeks, combined with the $60 to $100 dollars I spend on juice every couple of weeks I'm not saving much although I'm slowly building a stockpile of juice. Not quite as expensive on daily basis, but no huge savings and all of that goes into more gear.
