Subtank problem: low resistance/shorting

I've had my subtank for a couple weeks now and even the day I got it, if I snug up the 510 connection too much I would get a low resistance warning on my IPV2. So I would just back it off a little and it would be fine.

Now it's gotten worse, to the point where it will say there's a short or the usual low resistance warning. I have to very slightly back it off until it reads 1.2 or 0.5 ohms (depending on which head I'm using). If I back it off more, past the target resistance, the resistance reading on the device increases with each slight turn.

It works fine with my RDAs and even my Delta II can be screwed on nice and snug.

Anyone else have a similar thing happen or know how I can fix this? Maybe the tank itself is bad?

The IPV2 has an adjustable 510 center pin. Have you tried that?

Seems like you may be squashing the 510 pin on the Subtank, causing it to short. Perhaps adjust the 510 pin on the iPV2 inward for a better fit.

Yeah, I have the center pin screwed all the way down.

I was just able to fix it. I pulled out the pin on the bottom of the atomizer head and pried up the piece of kanthal that was bent down over the grommet which caused it to break off. That turned out to be a good thing because when I put the pin back in and screwed it on to the base (which I had already screwed down on the mod) it pushed up the coil inside the head. So I just pushed end of the coil that was raised up back down with a screw driver until it was level again and now it's good. Everything's all snugged up and reading right.

It must've been pushing that lead up which was, in turn, pushing the coil up and shorting it to the atomizer head housing.

This afternoon was my 1st spin with the Kanger Subtank on my ipv2. It worked fine at first, then I got the error message "Low Res!" and now it won't fire the subtank, but will fire other tanks. I tried using the non spring loaded beauty ring, but it's still not working.

ETA: Perhaps the tank was too tight because it started working again after I loosened it. Doh!

If you try what I mentioned in post #5 that should fix it. I'm now able to screw the tank on all the way -- of course when I change heads I'll have to repeat the process, but they last long enough that it's hardly an inconvenience.
