Subtasks mini vs RDA/RDA, Flavor isn't there

I've been vaping on my kanger subtank mini for a while now using the OCC 0.5 ohm coils and a couple others ones they make and I just stay going back to them
I also have a Griffin Rta, a Wotofo cubed RDA, and another cheap Ud RDA.
Now I get the best flavor hands down off the Subtank, I can do macro, micro, twisted, and Clapton coils. They could come out absolutely flawless, fire perfect, and wick great but all my builds have one thing in common. The flavor of just not there.
So I would like to know if any of you guys have ran into this?
My flavor off my builds is good but not great, it comes off a tiny bit muted and a but harsher than the nice smooth hits off my subtank.
Just for reference my mods are the I stick TC 40 and the VTC mini 60w.
The wire I have and use currently is 32g kenthal, 28g nickel, and 26g kenthal.
Can you guys recommend a build I can try that will have really great flavor and I can really enjoy.
Thanks

Try adjusting the builds in the rdas, closer to the afc. Some find moving coils closer to the direct air to help with flavor.

One thing I'd add is to make sure the coils are even with or slightly above the air inlets, so it's coming across, (ideally from slightly below), the coils before reaching the drip tip. Once you've done that, if the flavor is not better than what you get out of a Subtank, (which never particularly impressed me); imo there's a problem with your build.

Yeah I agree with 7sixtwo, the kanger subtank (I have the toptank) did not really impress me in terms of flavor. I can throw a build on almost any of the RTAs I own and have a better vape.

how many wraps, what IAD, what resistance did your DIY coils come out to? Also what wattage are you vaping them at?

Don't mean to ask such a noob question but did you dry burn your coils to make sure they glow from inside out and there are no hotspots?

I can't remember the number of wraps but for the macros it was usually around 6-7 and this last Clapton was a dual 7 wrap on the Griffin. I'll have to double check the resistance when I get home but I recall 0.67 ohm
I always make sure they glow from the inside out and no I do not dry fire them, I prime them first every time.
I get all the Hotspots out before wicking also.
I usually vape 40-60w.
What's IAD?

...Maybe you're subtank is an outlier and performing better than any other subtank out there.

Yeah, if that's the case, then I want to know where he's buying OCC coils that outperform dual clapton builds. Is he tapping into the Kanger CEO's "special stash" of miracle coils? :D

I don't know if it will possibly help, but 0.67 ohm seems a little high for dual claptons. Try building for 0.3-0.5 ohm. I usually do 6 wraps each at 3.5mm internal diameter, and that comes out to about 0.4 ohm, which I find very pleasant at ~48W-55W.

Must agree with others. I enjoy using my tanks but most of my RDA's will out perform them all day long.

RDA Building is a touch tricky. Rarely does a reviewer take time to show proper coil to air flow orientation. Distance to openings and angle of air strike can make huge differences in performance. As important as how much Air flow and How well wicked your build is.

Ah, this time I used a 3/32" drill bit, were in the middle of moving and couldn't find my coil jig. I usually go for the 2.5mm or 3mm.
Looks like I thought wrong though, its sitting at 0.42 ohms, 7 wrap 32g around 26g kenthal clapton coils.
It needed a little breaking in, my wife was vaping on it, I also moved the coils down a bit towards the air inlets on the griffin deck. Vaping at 50 watts, airflow and juicewells wide open, I must say I'm impressed, the flavor is coming through pretty well so far. Thanks for the tips guys.

My subtank has been really solid though, I honestly love it because I'm always on the go and it just keeps up. Ive had it for almost a year and have only broken one tank glass and I'm really rough with my stuff. Aside from the occasional leaking I get from extreme temperature changes, I can't argue.

Glad to hear that it's working for you now. :)

As for the Kanger tank, I ditched my Toptank Mini not because the flavor was bad, ("fine", but nothing special, Vaporesso ccells are much better), but because I was sick of it constantly leaking through the airflow. I've got a few more tanks now and not one of them has ever leaked anywhere close to as badly as the Toptank did every single day.

Ymmv, (and has, apparently).
