Hey I figure as long as I'm a newbie might as well get any questions floating around in my mind out there!!

Earlier this morning I read in passing (now cannot find it) that the success ratio of quitting analogs with an ecig is 40%. I really stunned to see that and to be honest, until I read that - the thought of not succeeding never crossed my mind. My mindset HAS to be - failure is not an option.

I was wondering if any of you had any additional information on this - and what feedback you could give - both for success and perhaps why people might fail so I know what pitfalls to watch for and avoid...

Thanks a ton for any responses!!!

P.S. vaping VR Hot Cinnamon for just about the last 24 hours. Still cannot put it down. :vapor: Can't believe I even slept at all...

I am right there with you. I think after my first 4-6 months, I'm going to experiment taking my nic levels down (currently enjoying the 18-20mg range - have some 12s on hand). But truthfully - I really liked smoking - just hated the taste, the smell and most of all the health hazard. I don't see myself not vaping - even if I'm doing a 0mg juice someday.

Did encounter my first buzzkill analog smoker - who informed me, after I was explaining that with an ecig the nico is absorbed into your body differently - via the mouth, rather than lungs (which I think I've read in multiple places) - that nicotine causes mouth cancer. I don't understand why someone would feel the need to say this...but let it go in one ear and out the other and moved on - because black lungs and not breathing is so much better...

I read 85% success in switching from real cis to vaping. (source:veterans forum) Wouldn't that percentage be higher if we weren't mislead by those over-selling the benefits of the little cigarette-looking ecigs and that one cart is like a carton of cigs ect? 40% is a great number if that % quit nicotine altogether. That's my plan... Baby steps.

You know this is a really interesting take on it. I spent about 7 days reading up on it - but the reality is that once I figured out I could smoke a flavor instead of tobacco flavor - I just found something I felt was really uncomplicated to start with and jumped in!

What I learned in my first 3 days was - wow I wasted alot of analogs. I had reduced smoking in my home to my office only - and I work from my home and I think I must have let alot of smokes burn down. I carto lasted me 24 hours - until of course I got some wonderful ejuice - which was so freakin yummie I went through a (incorrectly refilled in a rush of excitement) carto in about 7 hours. However, I filled again properly this morning and still vaping it off and on..but mostly on (lol) 9 hours later. I have never taken the time or do I have the desire to count puffs..lol. Still, 2 cartos per day is a massively huge savings over analogs....

I can see where someone grabbing something from the 7-11/ or similar and thinking that's what it's all about - getting off to a harsh start.

I am very leery of anything locally available - have no idea why but so much more comfortable with the the massively huge selection online!

I agree. If there weren't so many companies taking advantage of people trying to do something good for themselves and quit smoking, the success would be higher. I was irate at the SS Choice #7 terrible batteries and their false claims. I wish I could have found this site and got a mod right off the bat. I just hope that others can avoid the same mistakes, not likely, but at least it did lead me here and to some of the youtube reviews(grimm green especially). I'm adopting vaping as my new hobby...

I agree with Boodle, if people started with good equipment in the first place the success rate would probably be higher. The free e-cig offers, mall kiosks, the ones that advertise on tv, and the ones that do most of the advertising generally sell junk. But that's what lots of uninformed consumers see and buy. They have a bad experience and figure all e-cigs are junk so they give up. That's my opinion anyway.

In order to not fail keep enough stuff on hand so you're not going to run out of juice or atty's. Keep spares of everything. When you're down to a weeks worth of juice you're cutting it too close. If you've only got 2 batteries, get at least one more. Same with atomizers, keep at least a couple of backups. A lot of people don't think about the charger, but they can fail too.

Personally I like to keep at least two different systems. If one fails, I've got another. When you smoked you probably made sure you had cig's. Treat this the same way.

I felt that exact same way with Green Smoke. I felt fortunate that I found this forum and got some wonderful advice in time to send them back! The funny thing is that I wasn't looking to quit smoking. I just didn't want to freeze my .... off in the winter. Here I am today, with over 9 months quit!

HaHaHa! I very quickly learned that what began as a tool to quit smoking quickly became my new hobby!

Seriously - who knew quitting cigs would be this much damn fun! Especially when a friend first described the taryn spin to me as a whirl - and in my mind I was thinking hmmm whirl. To be honest when I first saw the term taryn spin I had this image in my mind of a subterfuge (sp) with like 20 cartos on it spinning in a circle - which was wayy complicated-not to mention the thought - how much does THAT cost! (hahahaha) So I said to my friend..whirl..ya mean like a lasso - which I promptly followed with --- you mean like whirl over your head? As soon as it floated out of my mouth I about fell out of my chair laughing. Yeee hawwww. He sent me a link to a video and told me he thought it would be ok if I didnt' go to such extremes..but GREAT laughs!! :D

I went into this with the failure is not an option mentality also and it will be 5 months tomorrow since I've lit up. You may have to play around with some different liquids at different levels and different atomizers/cartomizers, but when you find what works, it works.

Good luck to you.
Congrats Joey - so nice to meet ya and congrats on that 5 months!!! Cheers to failure is not an option mentality!
