Writing this quick because I have to get to work, but it's frustrating to have just had another one die!
I switched to the 510 because the atomizers were much more rugged than the clean-them-and-they-die 901s (my experience; I'm usually the alcohol-and-boiling-water type). I could expect to kill a 901 every month. 510s, through ~October, were lasting me multiple months.
Then I stocked up from my favorite supplier. Pretty sure I first sprung for some real Joyes but I might've killed some generics first. Using an Ego USB with about 10 months of wear on it, suddenly I had a whole bunch fail short (I think, need to pull out the pile and the meter) such that the battery would stop lighting up. Switched off to a Ugo for various reasons, had at least one or two more fail the same way; and I started using real Joyes somewhere in there.
After killing a couple more (now more commonly failing open), switched off to a SLB - "Those run cold, maybe those were the 'durable' ones." Used it for less than a week, and pfft, it was working, working, flooded it this morning, got some "gurgle" out (so it was still working), gave up and gave it a quick rinse under the sink and roll in vodka, and.. dead, open.
Tried to rip it open but didn't go through the heating trick, so just crushed the connector. Noticed a lot of white potting compound, and confirmed the insulated lead was open vs the case, so I haven't been wrecking center connectors.
Some of this might be user-error/user-laziness; I've been letting my "buff puff" filler get "ironed" down and being slow to replace it, so half the time just topping off on top of it, feeding the atomizer sort of like dripping (I constantly top off, though). I might also be smorking these things more heavily, between the holidays and just starting to work my way down to 6mg.
So I'm not about to wave pitchforks, but anyone else notice a sudden decrease in reliability / durability? Any of you atomizer-gutting hobbyists seen changes in manufacturing that would account for it? It's a bit odd that it happens across all makes, but if one not-so-bright idea spread across all lines, or the quality of the nichrome everyone's using has gone down...
(I just picked up some soft-cap cartomizers, and while I never really liked cartos after getting used to cartridges, I'm thinking I may have to switch off for a while - at least they're way less annoying than the original hard-cap 808s I started with. Clearomizers are a nice idea but I'm waiting for the regular size to start accepting a generic Dekang bottle nozzle rather than demanding a syringe fill.)
If I get a chance I'll try to go back and make a list of what exactly I killed based on purchase history, though I don't have the exact timings on [lack of] longevity recorded.

Edit #1: Well, just found this comment here about SLBs: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...247690-long-lasting-510-atty.html#post4729693 ... and the one that went on me today was a recently-purchased SLB. After having a commute to think about it, I opened that one up Tuesday and it only made it to Friday! Using a no-name (does that imply Boge?) right now and finally getting around to using fresh filler certainly can't hurt.
