By the time I lost 45lbs, hair loss, heart racing, bulging eyes, etc. after two doctors (both men) telling me it was just nerves, a woman doctor tested me for Graves. She was livid when I told her about the other doctors. She said those guys belong in the 19th century where graves disease patients was misdiagnosed and thrown in mental institutions. I was so stressed out that I started smoking after quitting for 20 years. Although I went through radiation to kill my thyroid and on syn thyroid, I still suffer some of the symptoms such high amounts of anti-bodies, bulging eyes and double vision. I was told that smoking increases the bulging of my eyes. Now that I am vaping and hasn't had a cigarette for 33 days, I am wondering will vaping do the same thing? I'm not asking for medical advice, just wondering if any of you ladies had similar experiences and could share it here. I could ask my doctor but I asked what she thought of ecigs and she just knocked it out of the park. Anything that you inhale in your lungs are bad.

HI Irish, welcome to the women's room

I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences with docs, and that your current doc doesn't support vaping, even if she did finally get the rest of it right. I don't know the effects of nicotine on Grave's disease, but that may be the question to ask your doc. Would she support pharmaceutical nicotine (patch or gum)? If so, then vaping would be less likely to be an issue.

It sounds like she needs an education about vaping. Would she prefer that you continue to smoke, or use something that data indicates is an order of magnitide safer than smoking, and has the possibility or being able to reduce nicotine intake relatively easily if you need to do so? CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association has a lot of data and references that you can share with your doc so that you can have a discussion about what is the best choice for you.

Hi Irishred. Everything CES said! And if reducing or eliminating nicotine is a goal, it's certainly doable. I know lots of people start out vaping at higher levels of nic and cut down. I started at 12 mg (was smoking ultra light tobacco cigs when I switched) went down to 6 mg pretty soon, and about 3 months after I started vaping I eliminated nic completely. I don't miss it at all. I'm still vaping 18 months later, but no nicotine in my body.

Irishred sorry to hear it took so long to get the right diagnosis. Do hope your feeling better. You have helped I wondered for a long time what the swelling was under my jaw line was...and the bulging eyes.. Stress from my neighbors especially the intensity of the first 2 years of them moving here and I had no idea what was happening to a once uneventful area. 7 years of peace security out in this area and then just total chaos not knowing where it was coming from and never once expecting it was my new neighbors for the first 2 years since it was random attacks and many in the dark. It makes sense being so stressed , being exhausted for no sleeping for all the chaos at night with the animals going bezerk ,,, for months on end.. That is how I fell and hit my head in the first place to cause a TBI stroke and the seizures.

When I was feeling better or at least aware, I did push myself into fitness and I chose the Primal Blue Print diet. Wheat always made me feel awful instantly, so I couldn't follow the carb intake that was the fitness craze at the time especially anything wheat.. So PBP instantly felt so much better.. That and the sups from PBP,, Huge difference in my face from then and now, but the swelling was always one thing I didn't understand.. Thanks cause I feel better now for having an understanding. and am going to to go straight Paleo diet choices. You tremendously helped someone for sharing and I thank you... I'm on 24mg nic strength and don't feel it causes reactions, I do feel I am at my worse when the neighbors stress me out and I fall off eating, sleeping, I know getting back on track in my nutrition/fitness always gets me going again..

PatriciafromCO, Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry that your stress is caused by neighbors who are cruel. We too have bad neighbors who have stolen tools from us but could't press charges because we didn't have receipts on items we have had for years. One day my husband drove by the neighbor's house and they had our floor jack out side in their driveway. The neighbor was pointing at it then pointed at my husband and laugh. Needless to say, physically, that was not a good day for me. The good news is last month, the neighbor has been arrested for burglary. I thanked God for ecig forums. There are so many kind people here willing to help. This is what helped me believed that there are good people out there. Strangers who are willing to share ideas, tips and encouragement. I know there are other forums for all kind of situations but right now I need this one. It just gratifying to know that there are sub forums here for other subjects. Please keep me informed of your quest for a healthier life. Thank you.

is amazing and disturbing how people can cross such moral lines and be so pleased with themselves about it. Sorry to your family for having to go through it too. And huge hugs to your DH,, it is so hard for my DH to restrain himself for what is going on here too. Here's to a good peaceful year for all of us. :) Thank you for your well wishes...

I had bad neighbors once, set up a gun practice range in my back yard and used it everyday...and night. There is nothing like fire licking out the barrel of a gun in the dark to make a Bully neighbor think.....

all's been quiet here :) might of been the comment "that is what stalking laws in CO are for" when I spoke to the deputy the last episode ... Any way the Paleo is such an easy no nonesene approach. I have my lemon water as soon as I roll out of bed to hydrate, get my berries with my vegan strawberry shakeology in the morning cause I am lazy want something quick to get me fueled before I head out to tend to all the animals.. then come in and for the snack I have my full breakfast eggs bacon with a small side veggie/salad. And it usually goes along that line for the rest of the day. But it is all about getting my morning started in the right direction first that sets the day going well.. I came across these suggestions and went ahead and ordered from Amazon with the aloe and herbs.. Definetly know cow milk is out for me.. didn't mind proving it as I love my coffee milk and wanted once last fling with a quart of milk before I said my good bye... It does make my throat swell and you can feel the after affects of feeling dragged down energy wise to know your having a reaction to it.. :(

got the book she suggested about aloe to read.. interesting concept if aloe can do what it saids it can.. I would defiantly try it on the dogs if they got allergies. Will let you know what I learn.. The liver flush I did was really refreshing and very balanced nothing extreme. So I defiantly knew adding back the cow milk that it was an immediate reaction..

Hey Irishred hope your doing well !! am doing good.. am trying Ocuvite Lutein and Zeaxanthin vitamins from Causch lomb and see if that helps for the redness in my eyes... Been good not to suffer the bugg eye pressure for a while since cutting way way down on milk and only getting the organic milk for my coffee.. other then that I have been using coconut milk for everything else.. today is the first day will see what it's like at the end of 90 days if any improvement... Hugs your way...
