I am looking for a 14500 VV PV. I recently got into the realm of VV with a LavaTube (uses 18650 batteries). I love VV! I can set it to 4.2-4.5 and enjoy that fresh off the charger battery hit I get with my 3.7 devices, but all day long. I would like to find something about the size of my ICON or BB, but that allows for Variable Voltage. I saw the VprLife has a Turbo XL that appears to fit the bill but see extreme variances in opinion that make me nervous about dropping $100+ on this device. I would like it to use 14500 batteries (have a LARGE supply of them), but if I find something small enough with VV that uses a different battery then I will probably just sell of my 14500's or trade them for a different type. Any help you guys can give is greatly appreciated.

MV VV box mod for sure. It gets the most use out of all the ones I have. I even dropped mine onto concrete today (about a 4' drop) and thought it was a goner. The back flew off, both batteries rolled away and the drip tip shot off. After finding all that stuff I looked it over and it just received a small crack in the case by connector. It still works perfectly and I'll probably just put some super glue over the crack so it doesn't get any liquid leaking through it when I overfill.

Getting the pre-built one is well worth the money IMO. I've got one of the kits sitting a drawer right now just because it's not worth the hassle to build it. It was also missing the switch as well (Madvapes did send me one right away though).

The regulator in the mv vv box heats up because the extra energy it gets from the batteries goes to a linear regulator and doesnt use it all gets turned to heat, where as the evercool mod uses smaller ammounts of energy with a switching regulator that doesn't get turned to heat

I think thats why it happens if memory serves correctly

Mine has heated up from day one, using 3ohm acorn tank at about 4.8v and can feel the box heat up where the chip sits inside the case after only a handful of drags in succession

If I use my 3 ohm atty it gets even hotter than with the ce2 acorn tank

Wow, that would make me a bit worried! Perhaps you should contact MadVapes? Mine definitely down NOT heat up as far as I've noticed, but I will pay more attention. Maybe some other MV VV Box Mod users can chime in?

I've got a VV Detonator MadVapes box mod. Not had it heat up as described here. Its a good box, does the job, and fits in the palm of my hand... and I've got hands like a t-rex. :\ I also use it with both an acorn tank and a chibi tank, without the described heating. I caned it so much that I had to put it down because I was experiencing flavor overload, so that's some pretty heavy use... still without heating. I'd recommend it, but I haven't tried a lavatube so I don't know if it would feel like a step-down.

The Madvapes box mods work great. They are a very cost-effective variable voltage mod. The regulator (linear regulator) in them is less efficient but if you have lots of batteries and can carry a couple spares, no problem. Because of the less efficient regulator, you are dumping 30 or 40 percent of your power; it's done as heat from the regulator chip when you vape. Try to fill the room with vapor, and it will get a little warm; normal vaping should present no problem.

On the other hand, mods based on the evercool (switching regulator) are much more efficient. They will dump only 5 to 10 percent of the battery as heat. The regulator stays cooler, and by not dumping and wasting so much energy, the batteries will last longer; add 30% battery life as an example. These type of mods are a little harder to find (Krimson Kustoms is one of them), especially if you deviate away from the box type mods.

Be careful on using smaller 14500 type batteries to draw large amounts of current from; many of them are simply not designed to deliver large currents. Asking more out of your batteries than they are supposed to deliver will simply cause the battery to shut off. Using my cheap silver batteries with a dual coil carto causes the batteries to shut down; I can only start back up again by removing and reinstalling the batteries, and getting rid of the power-hungry device.

But, my box mod with linear regulator gets the most use, and works the best under most situations.

I guess that folks have varying experiences with their MV VV box. I was using mine at around 3.7V with a Boge 2.0 carto. I realize now that I would have been better off vaping on an sr carto around 5V, but that was all I had on hand at the time. The back of the case actually started to melt and cave in. I sent it back and they gave me a store credit. Then I got my KK Evercool, and it's still going strong. :)

I've never had that happen, please elaborate.
