:p

Just a new vapor wanting to start my own coil builds/set-ups. Have a kanger evod, but just literally bought an origin mod clone by tobeco, it was only $18 so why not.

Which set-ups have been your favorite? I came here specifically because a friend of mine did a lot of buying/selling/trading until he found a build he really liked. So that's really what I'm aiming for here once my post count gets up.

Where are some common places to learn about ohms, watts, voltage, almost everything? Or should I just look at the FAQ/Search option?
I kind of have a grasp for it, but it's still foggy

Start here: E-Cigarette Forum - Baditude - Blogs

Or if you have specific questions, feel free to ask, there's usually someone on who can answer relatively quickly.

Hey, welcome to ECF.

My main setup is a stingray mech(clone) with either an igo-l or igo-w dripper on top, running micro coils in both, usually around .8-1.2ohms.

What kind of batteries did you get for your new mod?

I actually haven't bought a battery yet. Bought the mod, the friend that referred me to the website is giving me a dripper and putting a coil/wick in it. The battery and charger are next on the buy list this Friday.

From what I've read an efest 18650 is good if you can't get your hands on a vtc4/vtc5

I found efest 18650 ( 15 amp/ 35 amp ) and the different amp confused me a little.

Rip Trippers is what got me interested in making a build lol

I have a couple of vtc4's and a couple of the 35A purple efests. I like the sony's better. Be wary of the efests, there have been accounts of inconsistency with them, and them possibly not being up to their advertised ratings. Batteries are the one place you DO NOT want to skimp on. I believe the 15/35 is the continuous/pulse rating.

How low are you planning to go with your builds, also, make sure you have a multimeter/ohm meter, so you can check and re-check your build resistance.

Forgot to mention the ohm meter on the buy-list, too.
Nothing crazy. 1.0-.7 I think is my comfort level, no real intentions on " cloud chasing " more-so flavor chase.

Literally just found the efest blog on whatever drama's going on. Not sure what battery I would get if I decided efest's were a no go.

If you're going to stick to 0.7 and above, the AW imr's are a great battery to use, they're well tested and loved, just make sure you buy from a registered reseller. Kidney Puncher carries them. The only downside to the AW's is that they're only rated up to 10amp, so if you want to go 0.5ohm or lower, you'll need a higher amp battery.

So basically the amp = battery life? If I run under .5 the battery would barely last?

I'm actually going to write that name down. I'll buy two batteries of either or, and probably go for vtc5 when the company is up and running.

What kind of gauge kanthal are you running? I'm thinking 28-26 gauge being the most common? Use a rig to make your coils, or do you just grab a wrench equaling like 2-4mm in diameter?

No, the amps are the amount of power being pulled out of a battery at one time. Batteries are rated for the amount of amps they can output safely. The AW have a 10 amp rating. The amount of amps your build would pull can be calculated by dividing your voltage by the resistance. A=V/R

So, a 0.6 ohm coil, firing at 4.2v(fresh battery) would pull 7 amps, 4.2/0.6=7
If you try to draw more power than what your battery can safely output, it could vent, get hot, start spewing gasses, catch fire... none of which you want to happen inside a metal tube in your hand, close to your face.

Battery life can roughly be estimated by mah, Commonly 18650's are 1600-2500mah, but there are other considerations there too.

The wire gauge you'll want to use will be determined by what kind of coils you want to build and what your target resistance is, or you can choose your build based on what wire you have.

My personal favorite build is a 1/16" micro coil, using 28g Kanthal, 9 wraps for ~0.9ohms. That's wrapped around a 1/16" drill bit, tight touching coils, wicked with cotton.

I've thought about buying a coiling jig, or something, but I've never had problems wrapping on a drill bit, so I haven't gotten around to getting one. I did buy a set of drill bits so I've got everything from 0.7mm-3mm, but I always seem to go back to the tried and true 1/16" :) It could be that it's the one I keep in my portable build kit, and the rest are in my toolbox, and I'm lazy.

Yeah, I'm 19 and I have zero tools laying about in my home's garage. Kind of bugs me, not sure why. I'll probably skip the jig and buy a tool set along with an electric drill to try out more advanced builds later on

If you have a Harbor Freight nearby you can get a set of drill bits for a few bucks, I wouldn't actually use them to drill anything, but they're good to wrap coils on.

That's exactly what I was thinking, there's one about thirty minutes away. The only thing I'd buy there is a toolbox, but a drillbit set for my room would be handy.

What's your favorite set-up for flavor? I think no matter what, i'll still get good vapes compared to a 650mah kanger and fill out my room, but it's the flavor I'm wanting.

Although, do people really win mods at cloud competitions? That's insane lol
