So I ordered a mod through a certain supplier and received an email from this vendor requesting a picture of me holding my I.D. Next to my face along with my credit card. They claimed that due to it being the first time that I have ordered through them and the amount of the device. My order consisted of 1 item; a hana modz V3 DNA40 at $256. Has anyone else run into this?

With all the identity theft going on I'm not surprised. But most of the vendors I have seen have automated ways of dealing with this and are insured against loss due to identity theft. I can't say for sure if they are on the level, but asking me for a picture of me with my ID would make me a little suspicious.
I haven't no, but I guess I can kind of understand it

I've tested several "iffy" sites by placing extremely small orders to see how they handle things tho'

To preface; I have been Vaping for about 5 years now. It's been on and off, and have been away from the newest mods and devices. I wanted to post the whole email exchange via this site so that others aren't duped by these guys. I'm just not sure if that is in the within the rules of ECF. My bank told me that I had done the right thing in not sending that information because that is exactly how identities are stolen.
that's lame....im sure you can find the mod elsewhere let them know your taking your business elsewhere and will let others know. They should have insurance to protect them against fraud..not like your telling them to send it to Nigeria....
They are in Oklahoma, and I'm in Texas. They are supposed to be a large online supplier. They were listed on Hana Modz list of authorized dealers. I went through them trusting that they weren't going to sell me a knockoff or clone.

After the initial request, I offered to pay via PayPal but they simply said that if I don't agree to the terms that my order would be canceled and money returned. I haven't received a confirmation on the cancellation of the order nor have I received my money back onto my credit card yet.
I have been asked for a scan of my DL by a highly recommended and well known Japanese hobby store when I was into Airsoft and RC cars. They were the best suppliers of LiPo batteries at the time. I was nervous, but it went off without a hitch. I most likely not have gone through with my order if their reputation had been less than stellar.
If it's the Tulsa dealer that's listed on Hana's page, I've bought stuff from them (a $125 dollar order) and I stopped in one of their stores when I was was in Tulsa. I've never heard of a request like that, but I can tell you that they are legitimate, not some guy running a shop out of his mom's basement.
