The DIY monster in me has escaped. I am tired of buying crappy dead and soon to be bad 801 batteries and pass troughs. Both my battery and my passthrough died the same day and I cant seem to smoke analogs anymore. So I cut open my passthrough and rigged it with one of those cord light switches. Ghetto I know but it gets the trick done till I can build something nicer.

Anyway, started researching the the nicostick and I love the concept but I hate the idea of bieng stuck with only a battery. At work I have a USB port, My car has a USB port, and at home I have a USB hub on my nightstand. But portability would still be nice. I found this link and wondered if anyone has tried anything like it. It would be nice to stuff this in a Nicostick case with a protected battery.

Also, any reason everyone is stuck on the dangerouse Li Ion batteries?

Damn, that is a lot to bite off, building your own charger. I just posted a mod along those lines by using the circuit board from a cheap usb charger. The charger would probably be cheaper than that controller, parts, circuit board, etc. But I certainly am not trying to discourage you. That's a great instructable and those Microchip controllers look sweet.

There's too many reasons to list them all here why Li-Ions are favored for ecigs. Small package carrying a big punch is the bottom line. If you don't mind the size or weight, (4) 1.2 NiMHs would do quite nicely, too.
