First of, I have to say that I have never owned a vv/vw mod. So, I have no first hand knowledge of any of them. But, wanting one, I agonized over which one to buy as I too have a budget. I did about 3 weeks worth of research on the various models and broke down the candidates to:
- Innokin iTaste SVD
- Smoktech S.I.D
- Vamo V3
I searched for issues people were having with them as watching the Grim Green, PBasardio YT reviews.
The "bumped out" LCD screen on the SVD wasn't winning any points with me, it just looks like it's an afterthought. Thats a subjective thing I know but that's my opinion. But then, a few stories I ran across about the SVD suddenly dying (no I don't have a link) put me off to them all together, maybe it is only a small percentage but, buying from Fasttech, I didn't want to take the chance. I get the impression that Innokin rushed the SVD into production a little too fast. I am fairly confident that the issues (if there truly are any) will be corrected.
I really wanted to like the SID, nice looking (Provarilike), rugged and well built and a one button menu system (KISS) but it's menu is a mess and ugly. Although, of the three, it is probably the most reliable. You can also get after market tubes for them that allow it to be used with 18350 bats (Mad Vapes carries them among others). If I had the choice of having one and only one mod, I would probably overcome my dislike of the menu and go with it.
The Vamo v3 had made some real nice improvements to it's menu with a scrolling OLED display that is really good looking. In fact, the Vamo v3 would appear to have it all; flexible battery configs, nice buttons etc. The issues I found with the Vamo v3 were:
1. the swirls in the body... the v2's body looked so much cleaner and professional. - Not a real biggie tho..
2. Models with the gun metal finish had the finish ware off easily. - I was looking at the SS one so, no biggie.
3. all the Vamos are notorious for having a soft brass 510 connector (that possibly has non-standard pitch threads) and can easily be stripped. BIGGIE !
They are on their 5th version now and they can't get that connector right ???
Fortunately, for #3, there is a workaround and that is to get a tank airflow controller, screw it into the 510 connector snugly (but not tightly) , leave it there and screw/unscrew your attys from that. Unfortunately, you lose the ego connector when you do this (tho you can use an ego/510 adapter. All this of coarse adds height to an already tall mod...

In the end, when Fastech listed the new Vamo v5 for $32 and change last Monday I bolted on it. I also immediately bought a tank airflow controller. Being a dripper, I don't need an ego adapter and will only be using the Vamo around the house. For going out and about I use a Magneto.
Hope this helps.
