Hello everyone, I have been smoking hookah for over a year now, and have been modding hookahs and bowls for more than half that time. I am certainly a DIY'er at heart and have every and any tool required. I had a failed attempt to build an electric hookah recently, one that operates similarly to an e-cigarette. However I am putting that project on hold as I don't think I fully understand how e-cigarettes function.

I have become interested in swapping to e-cigarettes for health reasons and will be purchasing one soon. I'm leaning towards an eGo with a LR head, but other than that I'm pretty much in the dark. I am trying to emulate the experience of smoking hookah in doing this if possible. For example, longer smoking duration (~1 hour+ per session) but with fewer times a week, good vapor production, and good flavor. I'm not entirely sure I even need nicotine in my e-liquid, but I figured I'd try it at the lowest strength available. As I have been making DIY shisha for several months now I already have all of the components for making DIY e-liquid, so I would like to be able to refill whatever I get myself.

What I'm looking for does not have to be tiny or look like a cigarette, as long as it can last at least 2 hours on a single charge and produce large volumes of vapor. I'm also thinking of a tank or tank mod as I'd like to be able to go continuously without needing to go refill. Also I'm certainly getting a manual battery, I can see where pre-heating would be required on large drags. Any thoughts? Suggestions? I have plenty of experience when it comes to hookah but I'm in the dark when It comes to e-cigarettes.

Ego batteries will last quite awhile, especially the 1000 mah ones.

You do not preheat your juice. You click the button hold it in and inhale. How you inhale is up to you, to the mouth then the lungs or straight in. The hit you use for a PV is not the same hit you apply to a cigarette. It should be long and slow, not hard and fast. I'm not sure about a hookah, my only experience with those is e hookah. Your nose is the best place to 'taste' the juice ;) Inhale and exhale. Much more sensitive than your tastebuds on your tongue.

Vapor comes from vaporizing the juice. The higher VG juices make more vapor and taste a bit sweeter before the flavorings go in. If the VG juice becomes too thick a drop or two of distilled water will thin it a lot. If you are not used to a lot of nicotine via shisha, your plan for nic level may be fine.

All manual batteries, iirc have a 10 second cutoff. ie you cannot keep firing the unit for longer than 10 seconds. It's not really necessary. And yes you do want a manual battery if you are not going for the mini PV's that look like cigarettes.

Ego's and tanks are ok as long as the tank is not huge. They can look very sleek with a smaller tank on them and a thread cover, and they don't weigh much and hold enough juice for your purpose. Egos are not suitable batteries for dual coil cartos in LR according to most things I've read. They put too much strain on the battery.

Having said that I use 1.5 dual coils on mine off and on when I take them out shopping or somewhere where one of my big batt mods would cause too much staring. I'm not vaping on it constantly at that point. You could get an Ego C Twist battery which has more oomph and put a small tank on it, it would just be pretty long.

I'm sure you will find plenty of help and comment here in the ECF and welcome. Your body will be very grateful to you for removing all those other chemicals in cigarette smoke ;)

I am too a big fan of smoking hookahs but due to health concerns I switched to electronic cigarettes. I have been searching all around for flavors that can replicate the feel of the hookah but so far it has been difficult. Jet cigs apple medley is the closest thing I have found so far; it is actually quite nice, and with my provari mini the experience can last a long time. Now all I need is to find a good orange flavor and I'll be set!!!

Somewhat offtopic, but a friend and I am in the process of mentally designing a multi-user hookah. At least a single hose deal. Next up is the 3D modelling to see if everything can fits how I want, and some extra mods I think would be essential to the social group vaping if possible. I'm very new to vaping so trying to learn what I can before I invest actual money into it. Probably make some mini prototypes that have the main ideas, and then start putting them together into a single unit.

I know they exist already for us vapers, but as an artist I just like designing things. Not so good with the electronics side but as I always say:
"If some Neanderthals from the early 1800's can harness the power of electricity, so can I."

I've been designing and building traditional hookahs for several months now, my signature flair being steampunk haha. I attempted to replace the traditional bowl and coals with a metal mesh wick, e-liquid tank, and heating element / battery combo. My main flaw was that my heating element did not get hot enough to produce much vapor, I would get a very tiny amount. Needless to say next time I revise the concept I'll do more homework instead of picking up the parts for cheap and assuming something will get hot enough. I believe from what I read that you want the coil temperature to be between 180 and 195 C. Basically from my failed experience I learned I need a hotter coil. Also if you're looking at multiple hoses you'll need check valves unless you want to have everyone hold their thumb over the hose. I've been using a 1/2 in. PVC schedule male adapter with an average sized marble dropped in, they work surprisingly well for around 40 cents each.

Thanks for the replies guys! Definitely looking into the Vivi Nova now. Is there a preferred version as I'm seeing versions 1, 2, and 2.5 of the Vivi Nova from various websites for sale. I'm leaning towards the eGo-C twist battery and Vivi Nova along with a charger, either usb or wall will work fine. Can anyone recommend a supplier?

Vaperite has everything you need, including the Vivi Nova, although it is the V2.0 and not the 2.5. Not sure what improvements the 2.5 has made over the 2.0.
