I've tried hookah a couple of times in a hookah bar, but otherwise no experience with home hookah.
I don't know how hookah nic compares with vapor nic. For new vapers looking to quit smoking, the following is generally recommended:
"For e-liquid, the typical nicotine recommendations are generally determined by how much you smoked, and are as follows:
1/2 pack per day or less = 6 mg nicotine
1 ppd = 12 mg
1 1/2 ppd = 18 mg
2 ppd = 24 mg
If using a sub-ohm coil atomizer, cut the nic strength by half.
Figure on consuming at least 3 - 5 ml of liquid daily. Bottles are usually 10 or 30 ml volume."

Hard to say, as a lot depends on your delivery device. If you want a lot of wattage, clouds and vape, you will likely be using a direct lung, sub0hm vape, usually somewhere in the 3--6 mg/ml suits, I have no idea how much nicotine a hookah delivers, so I might get a bottle of 6 and 0 nic in the same flavor, so you can dilute down 1:1 to 3 m.g. if 6 is too much.
If you are looking for a smaller, less vapor, and mouth to lung vape (similar to the draw of cigarettes) you'd be using less wattage, emitting less vapor, and most folks start somewhere in the 12--36 range (36 really being for a very heavy smoker).
So, depending on what device you want to use, it depends. Just pay attention to symptoms of nicotine overload (queasiness, headaches, dizziness, yawning) and put the vape down if it happens. That should also tell you if your nicotine level is too high. You want to be able to vape enough to put your cravings at bay and in the beginning that sometimes means a bit of chain vaping, which is absolutely fine to do... at the correct nicotine level.

Hi Seanp. Welcome to the ECF.
Your Nicotine Level is going to be Very Dependent on the type of Atomizer, the Watts you use, and of course, the type of hit you want.
A General Rule is Lower Resistance Coils, maybe 0.5 Ohms and less, tend to need More Watts. And people tend to use Lower Nicotine levels. Maybe less than 12mg/ml.
Where a Higher Resistance coil, tends to need Less Watts. And people can run Higher Nicotine levels.
What type of e-Cigarette hardware were you thinking about getting?
I can tell you my rig vapes just like a hookah... it's a Vaporesso Revenger set on medium using a Big Baby Tank with 0.2ohm coils and using 6mg max VG eliquid. The only reason I know this is because I tried a hookah a while back and was like, this is no different than my tank... no thanks!
