Hey guys, been a member for a bit and just have been reading a lot.

Here is a question for you:

Has anyone seen finish issues with the SX mini? This isn't a clone and is about 90 days old.

I use it only at my desk and it doesn't get beat around. The finish wear is solely from my thumb. I'm a bit OCD and this just drives me NUTS!

thoughts?

The power button motif is laser etched, so it would likely take something acidic or alkaline to wear down the metal. Do you eat a lot of oranges perhaps?

The power button is in perfect condition. The problem is the paint around the area that is coming off...Look closer at the picture and you can see the copper color coming through the silver paint.

I also posted that picture on the YiHi SX Mini facebook page but I doubt they will be of any help.

The fire button on my iPV4 is doing the same thing. Less than 2 months old and the finish is already wearing off. I never put the thing down though, unless I'm grabbing another mod. Think of it as a custom patina. :thumb:

If Yihi won't do anything about it then I'm just going to take it apart and cerakote the frame and sleeve. It will hold up a lot better.

The oils your skin produces will wear the finish. Look at door hardware, knobs, levers, pull trim........ it just happens.....

I will disagree with you here. I have coatings on my bolt guns that have seen far worse conditions and much more handling time. The finish is as nice as it was the day I pulled it out from the coating oven. The door handle to my shop is 10 years old and gets all kinds of crap on it and the finish is fine. This is simply piss poor quality by Yihi.

I will wait for them to respond. If I haven't received a response by this weekend I'm pulling it apart, blasting it, and baking some cerakote on it.

I'm sure your fire arms have a far better quality finish on them than basic door hardware. Being a locksmith for 30+ years, I can tell you from first hand experience, it's true. Quality finish wins every time!

I had paint issues on the man body not the C frame of my SX Mini. Paint was chipping off, vendor said Yihi was aware and would replace it. I had to send them a video of me scratching of the paint with my thumb nail and a photo of the barcode on the box. After vender had sent all onto Yihi they verified as ok to replace. I sent mod back to vendor and had a new one in my hand in a few days.

I have contacted my brick and mortar store where it was purchased. No response as of yet.

If i remember correctly, its got a bolt on the underside. What part of DFW are in?

There is no bolt. It has 2 solder points on the bottom. It almost looks as if it is press fit.

Live in Lavon and Work in Midlothian.

Bought it from Vapor Essence.

I just want to get this thing apart now and get some cerakote on it. My side arm I coated 3 years ago and it is in and out of 2 different holsters every day not to mention the 5000+ rounds I have fired from it. No signs of wear at all!

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
Unfortunately the finish on most high end mods isn't very good , this is disappointing for sure though , i would have to beat somebody up over this and i'm not even violent .

If your OCD as the OP claims it's especially tough to deal with , we tend to go over every nook and cranny on an hourly basis and whats nothing to most is unbearable to us lol.
