Hi all,

Tomorrow I am taking my father in law to one of the local vape shops so he can pick out some vape gear for Father's Day. He has been wanting to quit for a while. I think he likes the idea of e-cigs.

A while back I gave him an ego battery with an EVOD tank and filled it with some juice he liked. It's not working for him very well, mainly because he draws wayyy to hard on it and it floods the battery. I constantly have to "fix" it for him.

Cig a likes definitely did not work for him.

I'm going to spend $40-$50 toward a new set up for him tomorrow. I was thinking about what I wish I started out with, and I wonder if he would be good to go with a couple of VV batteries and maybe a couple of pro tanks?

What do you guys think would be good for someone who pulls/draws pretty hard on an ecig to start out with? I want it to be as smooth sailing as possible for him to start out with because I want him to give up the ciggys.

UPDATE! We went to the local shop and I spent $65 on a Spinner, a case, 2 Iclear 16's and 2 bottles of juice.

And to the poster that recommended the top coil-you were spot on. He is doing great with them so far, and no flooding! Heck, I even vaped one of them for a little while and I think I want to get me a few of them. I was always gun shy of top coils because of how I started vaping with CE4's. They were murder.

It was fun, he selected the color of battery he wanted, taste testing a bunch of juices, and the lady at the shop was super helpful in showing him how to use it all and what to do.

Thanks for your help!

OK then, maybe I will spend more than $40-$50. I wanted him to be able to see and pick out his own stuff to be able to use tomorrow.

So...not going to the PC on this one because he is really excited and wants me to take him. Thanks, though. I'm sure after the initial set up I will be able to point him in the right direction to buying online.

Not a problem I wasn't trying to put your idea down or anything definately more exciting to go in person. I was simply trying to warn you because anything you see online for say 15-20 dollars can easily cost 35-40 at a traditional store. I've ended up spending 100 dollars on something that only cost 45-50 dollars online at a store. It might seem like a rip off but they have to pay insurance, rent, employees and then after all that still try to make a little profit.

Good luck tomorrow with your Dad, I'm sure he'll love it!

I am unaware of any delivery device that won't flood/leak/gurgle if you repeatedly take hard or fast pulls/draws except a properly primed & filled carto.

My genesis RBA's have never flooded, leaked, or gurgled. I'm not suggesting she set him up with a mech and RBA, unless of course she knows how to set that up right, and he's willing to learn it for himself, which is probably not real likely. Leaving that aside, I'm not sure what to recommend.

That sounds like a terrific Father's Day present! At the very least, I'd buy him something that you have some familiarity with so that you can help troubleshoot and give advice should the need arise. Good luck to your dad!

BTW, Halo Triton is easy to use and a very reliable system, mine don't do any of those leaking, gurgling or flooding things unless I've neglected the coil for too long, but you probably won't find it in a B&M.

A tank with an adjustable draw might be good. Many devices are fixed in their airflow and trying to make them work for hard pulls is difficult to pull off sometimes. The full size protank is picky about devices; the mini-protank fares better in this respect. The mini has airholes around the outside of the base that can easily be drilled out for better airflow.

Yes, this is what I was thinking! I was thinking of getting him a VV battery, a mini protank (or the Aero if they have it) and a bottle or two of juice.

I think they have having a sale tomorrow so perhaps I will find some good deals. I like saving money online, too...but this guy has to see and touch things before he can appreciate them. He's a car guy. I think that has something to do with it.

I thought about telling him that I will put $50 toward his purchase and let him cover the rest. He may be more committed to it if he made a monetary investment....

Schmidty,

First, I applaud your effort, and good luck!

Second, if he tends to flood the BCC types, get him a TCC type (a CE4, an Iclear16, something like that) I don't like them as much personally, but they might work better for him. With a BCC, if you draw too hard on it, you get too much juice in the system. With a TCC, you just tend to suck it dry.

However, here is a bit of advice that I've given to several friends just starting to vape, and it has helped them a lot.

"With a cigarette, if you aren't getting a strong enough "hit", you draw harder on it. With an e-cigarette, the opposite is true; if you draw on it slower, you get a bigger hit".

For the folks I've gotten into e-ciggs, that concept was the dam-buster. It takes a bit of thought, but it is true. He has to break the habit of "harder is stronger" but once people try it a couple of times, it gets more natural.

I wish you the best of luck!!!!!

Thank you! This is the best advice I could have received. You are absolutely right...a top coil will be best! And the stuff about getting a stronger hit-you hit the nail on the head. Thanks so much!

What twg said, and...

Any vv battery (or two) would be great. Being able to adjust is, imo, indispensable.

Top coil may be a good idea as well, although I, too, prefer bottom coils. Aerotank?

If they have a juice bar, have him try some extra flavors.

And don't forget extra coils for whatever topper is settled on.
