I use and love both...

but as a first vaporizer should I go for the E510 from NJOY or Model J-118 from unknown manufacturer?
First off, I have no idea if the "E510" is the same as the Joye 510/Titan/Yeti/Dura. Whenever anyone here is talking about a "510", that's what they are talking about. It's a hugely popular model so it's frequently rebranded. Just make sure you're getting an actual 510.

Overall, as much as I like my J118/VX2, I'd say go with the 510 but only with a PCC. The 510 PCC negates the battery life issues. That makes the choice come down to flavor/cart life in the J118 vs throat hit/vapor in the 510, and the 510 pulls ahead there.

Either way you'll get an awesome PV, but the 510 is just slightly better overall.

Taking the plunge tomorrow or the day after depending on the whole holiday schedule, but as a first vaporizer should I go for the E510 from NJOY or Model J-118 from unknown manufacturer? Any opinions? (As I know this is a matter of taste.)

I use both devices. One is mine, the other the bride's. You can't go wrong with either. Although, the 510 PCC is built much stronger than the J-118's -- metal as compared to plastic.

BUT, DON'T wait 'til AFTER the holiday schedule. There are quality vendors running sales THIS weekend. Litecigusa, E-smokeronline and Nhaler to name just a few...

NJoy does not sell the Joye 510. Many members have reported problems with the NJoy and it is not a manual switch device. I would definitely buy ONLY a manual switch battery like the Joye 510. Along with the other good suppliers mentioned, I would add these:

Home - Rocky Mountain Vapor you have reached the mountain top of electronic cigarettes!

www.eastmall.net - Eastmall International Co.,Ltd
e-Smokey Treats - Electronic Cigarette's, The healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarette's

:) can't wait till tomorrow when my local retailer reopens I'll pay the extra few bucks and get the E510 from Njoy then. Can't wait! $35.99 and from what I've seen none of the sponsors from this site has the same deal, especially after shipping. Although now I'm going to need to purchase some juice as I bet cartridges add up quicker than smoking a pack does, at least from what I am reading.

Oh yeah, definitely get juice. It will save you so much money in the long run.
