RTA advantages:

Coils last longer.
Can be rewicked several times before new coil is needed.
Cost per coil is greatly reduced.
Can make resistance anything that your device can handle.

Disadvantages:
It's a tedious process (for some) and can be frustrating.

Honestly I'm kinda angry with myself for not getting into RTA's sooner. I just got my first one today but once I got the hang of it I enjoyed building my own coils.

Northern NJ native , Coastal NC now.
I have both but i will very very rarely buy a tank that doesn't offer a rebuildable RBA option. Thats about mandatory with me .

That being said , i am completely blown away with the Uwell D1 tank , that thing vapes on a different level than every tank i have ever owned or tried , truly amazing , coils last forever also.

When it comes down to it though i would always go with a dedicated RTA .

I would consider an RTA the next step after using drop in coils, the amount of money you can save and flexibility in coil builds is a big upgrade. Some RTA's can be fiddly to set up, its all about learning and succeeding anyway. Ultimately, I prefer RDA's if there isn't a problem dripping all day. Easier to wick, less fiddly, great performance, the most organic way of vaping.

should I buy a tank with drop in coils or an rta where I could build on, which is better in you're opinion (I'm an experienced sub-ohm vaper so building is not going to be an issue)? Thnx❤️
As far as i am cobcerned RTA all the way.

1. Better flavor.
2. Inconsistent vape experience from pre made coils.
3. Build to the resistance that works better for the Juice you use.
4. If you're in the US and the deeming regulations are allowed to stand coils may be removed from the market in 2018.
5. Cheaper. A Kanthal coil costs me 1.5-2 cents. It works for about 3 months and replace tge wick when the flavor goes. In my Kayfun (picture in avatar) 60-70 cents of Kanthal and Rayon lets me vape a year. I Dry burn tge Kanthal coil before installing another wick. Don't Dry burn Nickel or Titanium coils.

Me too.

I was draged to rebuilding kicking and screaming. One coil woyks have too much cotton and could not wick so Dry hits. The next had too little cotton that popped and spit hot ejuice in my Mouth.

I started rebuilding the OCC heads abd finally had consistency. Went RDAs but hated dripping all the time and taste of burning cotton.

Went RTAs abd been happy as a clam ever since.

I also discovered u could cut my Juice consumption by going higher resistance and lower watts, AND MY EJUICE actually had BETTER FLAVOR.

Why ask others their opinion when for a very modest investment you can find out for yourself? IMO if you want to keep expanding your vape horizons it is just something you learn along the way for the sake of knowing. Is like asking if a mechanical mod is right for you. I got one just to see what the fuss was about. Used it a lot for a couple months, now mainly sits. My greatest discovery from going there was that I really liked having a device with replaceable batteries. Anyway, for twenty bucks and a modest investment in time to learn coil building you can open up new door(s) in the vaping world. It's worth price of admission regardless of outcome.

The question is tricky because personal vape style plays a role.

Besides the RTA advantages listed above, there's the matter of available build size.
Most RBA heads for factory coil tanks are the same size as the drop-in heads. You don't have to be a cloud chasing, heavy metal multi-coil builder to quickly run out of room and options.

The Kanger mentioned above is an exception (and an old one now at that) in that the RBA deck is virtually the same size as the deck in the Serpent Mini RTA. I don't have more recent examples in mind, but it's a welcome trend I've seen in at least a few recent tanks.

If build space might be a concern, and you prefer to go the "tank with factory heads available" route, it's worth a little investi-Googling to keep from being disappointed later on.

That said... I much prefer my pure RTAs ('Mizer/Supreme, Serpent, Bachelor etc.) and haven't used a factory head in many, many months. I don't miss them. ;)

howdy! and welcome!

personally, i would vote rdta all day - steamcrave supreme is a rockstar, imo - right now, yetivape has em on black friday blowout for 7.50 (normally $44) - beast of a deal :)
I ordered one of these. Crazy good deal. I really wanted the "lite" as this one will overhang slightly on the front of my Lavabox M, but I just couldn't pass up that deal.

When you want to load something fast as you leaving the house a tank is great. I use the original Crown and pay $9 for a 4 pack of coils (vape royalty). One coil last about a week.

That being said I own several RTA's because I can build them and maximize the flavor and vapor. They are as fast or as easy as a tank but once you get the hang of it a build only takes a couple minutes.

Hi @Snox sox ! Some tanks like the Uwell Crown and Smok TFV4 and TFV8 give you BOTH options, which I really like. You can build their RDA deck, OR use a factory coil when you are in a hurry and don't have time for a build. The decks for them are cheap enough that you can own a couple, and always have one wicked and wired and ready to go too if you don't want to waste a $4 factory coil.

If you have Experience with building your own Coils, I would suggest you go the RTA Route.

Pre-Made Coil Heads can be Nice. And have Vastly Improved since they First come out. But (to Me) they still Can't Beat a RBA Coil that is Hitting Well.
