Tank styles

It seems that a number of the Provarinati are using cartotanks. I understand the physical difference in construction between the different styles, but I don't see what the benefits are. I have a ProTank2 coming with my Provari (which just got updated to a Monday delivery instead of Saturday ) but only because it was part of the starter kit. I understand it's easy to swap out carto's, but it looks just as easy to swap out the atty on a ProTank2.

So, all of you versed vari vaping geeks (sorry I couldn't think of a 'V' synonym for geeks to keep the alliteration going), sell me on a cartotank. Why do I want one? Appearance/aesthetics are 0 points.

I got the same kit and it just arrived..im interested with what the others say.. but I think ill srick with the kit for now.. its pretty good..but then again its only been 15 min

I started with cartos but didn't like priming them so when I found clearos, I started using them exclusively. I just recently read Ocelot's blog and with all the talk about cartos decided to give it another try. Here's what I have found:

Taste wise - Compared with the Protank2, the flavor is the same, not noticing a lot of difference
Consistency - Miles better than the Protank2. No gurgles, no dry hits
Longevity - Since I vape mostly dark, sweeter juices, I might get a tank, maybe two tanks our of a Protank2 head. I'm on my fifth tank full on the same carto and I've changed flavors each time without doing anything but filling and the carto seems like it's still new.

I don't get any burnt taste like I sometimes do with the Protank2. It seems like I can use a higher voltage on the cartos without the burnt taste too. I still think it's easier changing clearo heads and refilling is easier too and I'll still be using them because I have quite a few heads but I've decided that I'm going to use a carto on my ProVari from now on.

I'm using a Smok 2ohm carto.

I'm not vvv geek so disregard is so desired.....

I think the flavor is better with the cartos, just my opinion. I have both and actually have the same juice in a pt2 and a cartotank with the same drip tip on each and had my wife try both with eyes closed and without hesitation she also agreed that the flavor was more intense with the carto and beleive me, she rarely agrees with me!!

With a good brand carto (Ikenvape) the flavor is superior with a cartotank over any clearo. Takes a little longer to setup (carto priming) but it's worth it to me. Zero maintanance other than tank refills. Carto will last 1 - 3 weeks depending upon the color and viscosity of the e-liquid. Most important step is proper priming of the carto; take your time and do it right. Only the iClear 30 comes close to a cartotank in flavor IMO, which I also use for convenience occassionally.

Clearomizers only have small string wicks to carry the liquid to the coil head = small surface area. Result is muted flavors.

Cartomizers have a big wad of absorbant polyfill which totally surrounds the coil = larger surface area. Result is more flavor & vapor.

Baditude, you're not such a bad guy, no matter that you're from Ohio & despite all those things Ocelot has been saying about you Definitely some good reading material that I'll have to go over again. Is the wick issue still as pronounced in a bottom atty clearo like the ProTank2?

I've had good luck with the Pro Tank 2. But I do like the consistency of a carto a little better. Personally, when I refill my tanks, I also re- prime the carto, or top it off I guess would be a better term. At the end of a tank, the top of the carto dries out. So I just add enough juice to moisten it back up. In my experience this keeps the carto alive for another week or so. Letting it dry out is where the burnt taste comes from. Yuck... I probably run a good 40-60 mL of juice through a carto and the flavor is good til the coil pops. To me, a protank is a lot easier to maintain than a carto setup, but they are a roller coaster ride. A carto, with a little effort, will typically be the same from day one til you chuck it in the trash.

If esthetics is 0, the best flavor hands down is a truly ugly and ill-fitting Aspire Nova BDC tank on a full sized Provari, slightly loosened for airflow. Not very close 2nd is a carto tank. BUT! I don't have any Ikenvape carto's, I'm using smoktech and boge XL's.

So despite appearances, I am running around with my ugly Aspire Nova BDC (glass version) on my Provari.

It's probably all in my head (or not) but I think the best vape I get is using my Kir Fanis tanks vs. the IBTanked and Phiniacs

Definitely a psychological thing... but it surely feels better when you are vaping the exotic (expensive and hard to acquire) gear, doesn't it?

Those Kir Fanis tanks look nice, but I wish their tubes weren't plastic. The end caps are sexy.

The only reason I said aesthetics were 0, was because it's really secondary in my book. I wanted to know the reason why I should give them a try (which a number of posts here have convinced me I should). If they "just look cooler", it's not worth the money for me. I wanted to know about performance... and now that I have a better idea of that & want to try one or six, the aesthetics come into play

Alright I did it. I have 3 IBTanks ordered. All 19mm XL's (although I'll probably spring for a Loki Ring pretty soon & get a 22mm tank. Iken was sold out so I just got the Smok's from IBT.

Have you ever calibrated your monitor settings? Usually when product colors are off, it's not the picture but the monitor display settings. Ever notice how places that have all the TV's for sale are playing the same movie, but they all look different? Some of that has to do with the display, but more has to do with the fact that they pay people to put them on the wall, not to actually know how they work & set them up properly.

You can make it as easy or as technical as you want to, it's like most other things where the more you put into it the more you get out. But if you're just looking for more accurate color representations you don't need to do nearly as much as if you were setting up a professional print shop.

The photo method (print a photo, hold it next to the monitor & adjust the settings till they match) is only good for setting up your monitor to that particular printer, ie it may not show you 'true color' when viewing photos on the web... but it will make them print (on that printer) exactly how they appear.
