Tanks vs. cartons?

I think I am, leaning towards a tank system. if I understand correctly, most systems can be interchanged to so degree. What are some of the more popular models I could start with that I can grow with? I do know I want a 1000mah battery. Do all tanks leak? I want to be able to vape on it all day. But also change it out to something a little simpler if I need to take it out and about for a while. Or am I just asking to much lol?

There are basically two types of tanks..Cartomizer tanks, and CE2 tanks.
Here is a good example of a CE2 tank...The Vivi Nova. I haven't tried them myself, but alot of people like them.
GotVapes Vision ViVi Nova™ V2.5 : GotVapes.com, E-cigarette Supplies - Atomizers Cartomizers Mods Juice and more

Here is an example of a cartomizer tank. (This is the type I personally use)
VPX Cartomator Cartomizer Stainless Steel Tanks
There is a cartomizer inside the tank with a hole in it. The juice flows from the tank into the hole when you vape.

Tanks are pretty leak free these days, no matter which type you get. I lay mine down on its side, and stick it in my pocket on the go, and I've never had one leak on me yet. I'd suggest you try one of each, and see which one you prefer. Either of these will work well with a 1000mah battery. Hope this helps you some!
Tanks screw on and off, just like cartomizers do.

Buddahbelly, I was going to chime in, but you really have gotten the basics right here already. Doneee, that was an excellent comparison! I like tanks, but just use them at home, really.

Bottom-feeders are also very good, for being away for a while, and not worrying about carrying extra juice. Most all of them will easily hold a day's worth. Vmods are good, but I have two friends with them and say they can leak. Boge Revolutions are nice, hold 10 ml of juice, 1400 mAH of batteries last well, they have a storage compartment for a spare carto, and have a built-in USB charger/passthrough. They're cheap, and plastic, but work very well. REOs are great, you are then delving into external batteries to keep charged.

900-1100 mAH Ego/Kgo are great, easy to transport, and plenty of battery. Get two!

More on topic? I would suggest learn to use cartos first. Boge 510D are very cheap and reliable. If you wind up with a carto tank, the experience you get will still be helpful. For a fixed-voltage device, 2 ohm or so will perform better, at the expense of a little battery life. If you someday get a VV device, 3 ohm will keep it happier.

So looking thru some things I have found that I like the kgo from here Elite Vaporworks KGO Starter Kit with Boge LR Cartomizers - KGO that Kay 1959 had suggested. It's looks simple and seems like a good startup kit. Would it be possible to later get a tank to use with this setup? That way I can get started and just add on to it later and have the best of both worlds?

I prefer a 510 XL carto without a tank. I don't want the added bulk of a tank on a PV that travels in my pocket all day. Don't want potential leak issues either.

The LR Smoktech XL cartos I use hold 1.8ml of juice. I vape off about 1ml before changing out to another fully filled carto. I go through three cartos per day this way. It doesn't take that long to refill three cartos every evening. They last me 7-10 refills before I toss them.

If I wanted to have another APV for home use only I'd go for a carto tank. Having one multi-purpose APV is more my style, though.

it all depends on the threading you get for the ego style batt. most are just standard 510 female connections

a kgo is just another model of an ego battery. can't say i have personal experience with them but most if not all will be the same in shape and have similar insides. they're also differences in how much power is regulated from ego to ego. but it's not much of a huge difference imo. this will just depend on your attomizer/cartomizer/clearo-whatever ohms.

some have five-click protection which is great to have as a feature if you want to put your ego in your pocket. they're variations of that "five-click" with some having 3 click protection and others having a form of a 10 second cut off (in which you then have to connect to the charger or click it 5/3 times to turn it on again). the only ego with a major difference on the inside is the ego-c twist. which is what i'm going to get to attempt to go back to a tank system later this month. cheap vv ego.
it's also a bit longer then a standard ego.
i'm going to actually go ahead and get it from Joyetech.com, as i want to have a legit (revision?) version of an unbranded ego-c twist.

also to answer your question, you have to think of this hobby, like computers. more-so computer hardware. so many brands and companies out there that produce similar stuff that do similar things, price them at different prices, but at the end of the day it's only worth it if your satisfied. you can get a really expensive product, show it off; have un-needed bells and whistles in it, and vape on it all day OR you can get a relatively cheaper version that has the same core qualities as that expensive version with out the flashy "overclocking" features (variable voltage). as such, you can go with a very well known and good rated vendor, or go with something you can probably find on ebay that has a bunch of little golden made in china stickers all over it.
and as with PC's, you can reuse your old equipment on your new set if it's capable. just my :2c:

which version of the vmod do they have?

i've yet to make mine leak at all. I've purposely tried my best to make it leak. I bring it everywhere. i run with it, i play games with it, i go everywhere with it. and i mean everywhere. i can shake it all up and over fill it. no juice at all will go outside into the "catch cup" or leak within the mod itself. i've had 100% PG, 70/30, and 100% vg (as of now) and no leaks. the only way i can see it leaking if i had the old gen vmod with crappy seals for it.

sorry for the off-topic-ness, but i must defend my love. :D since i got a hold of the vmod, i figured i wasted a lot of money getting different tanks just for changing up flavors. it works best for me on my vigorous change of paces and flavors throughout the week.

Ok I am just about convinced with the kgo! Kay do you know which tanks and /or tank/cartos I can use with the kgo? Or are most of them universal?

Well, let's see.....You can use something like this....

Vision Nova Tank Clearomizer V2

Or you can use something like this....

EGO Vision clearomizers LR 2.1-2.4ohm

Or you can use something like this....

LR Chibi Tank Mod (boge 2.0)

The latter is the one I started with myself. You do need to have a syringe and needle to fill them with, but it's a cheap intro into carto/tank set up. I had about 7 tanks, each with different flavors, so I could rotate through the day. It took me about 3 minutes each morning to fill my tanks for the day. After I decided I liked the carto/tank set up, I went to glass tanks. Glass tanks are better in my opinion because your juice can have a reaction with the plastic tanks after awhile, and cause your juice flavor to be somewhat muted. If you decide you like this type of setup, I'd strongly recommend the Phiniac tank.(That's what I'm using now)
Naked CLear Phiniac Tank - Phiniac Rugged Pyrex Glass Tanks
They are very sturdy tanks. You might think that a glass tank would be prone to breaking, but I've not had one break on me yet. I live and work on a farm....not too far from you actually! lol! And I carry tanks in my cargo pants without worries.

But anyway, the world is your apple babe! Go out and taste it! lol! The only thing you have to remember is to get somewhere around the 1.7-2.0 ohm resist carto/atty. And stay away from dual coils! For instance a 1.5 ohm dual coil has two coils running at 3.0 ohms. This will be a huge drain on your battery. If you want the larger tanks that use the dual coils, order the tank and buy some XL single coil cartos to use with it. They will fit.

This has gotten ENTIRELY too long! lol! I'll shut up now! :D Happy Vaping!

my 2 cents, regarding batteries, it is a good idea to have a mix of sizes. I am a joyetech guy. I have 2 650mah ego-c, 1 1000 mah USB passthrough ego-c update battery, 1 ego-c twist 1000 mah, 1 ego-c twist 650mah. I split them between office and home. as for cartos i use boge 2.0 for few flavors that i occasionally vape, and tanks for all day vapes. I use mini subs from momandpopvaporstore, and J tank from electronicstix. and of course tanks are always filled with Bobba's Bounty and Gorilla Juice. Tanks perform beatifully with the Twist, although you need to keep your taste buds fresh in order to detect when to change the pre-punched carto, since I realized that in a tank it is hard to have a burnt carto flavor but a mute one.
