I have been vaping for about a year now but have never used a tank. Do tanks work better than clear cartos? If so, should I use the pre mades( Vivi Nova etc ) or build one?

Contrary to what most people call them... Technically the Vivi Nova is not a tank.

It's just a big Clearomizer.

Now if you drill a hole in it and drop it inside a bigger tube... then it would be a tank... A VERY BIG tank.

That's pretty much it. In my case I really like Ikenvape filler cartos, use them in a notcigs M1A1 tank. Ikenvape does a superb job in terms of consistency/quality control (the bane of cartos), and the M1A1 has been a leak-free, rugged, tank. I actually got an 801 top cap for my tube mod just so I could use the 801 fusion/M1A1 combination without an adapter.

There are two types of tanks. There are the clearo-tanks that mechanically are like large clearomizers, that utilize string wicks to draw the e-liquid to the atomizer, like the above mini Vivi Nova. The top unscrews for easy juice filling and cleaning.

The other type of tank is the cartotank. These use a cartomizer which is a steel tube with polyfill, a center air hole, and the atomizer within it. Holes are either present in the carto when purchased (pre-punched or pre-drilled) or one can purchase empty cartos and punch the holes themselves with a carto punch tool available from online vendors.

The tank is a juice reservoir for the carto, and juice is pulled into the cartomizer with each puff taken through the holes in the cartomizer. The is a slight learning curve involved with cartotanks, and learning how to assemble and fill a cartotank is essential before purchasing one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRmsIDJyY2g

You can also get the CE2 style cartomizers to run in tanks and get the best of both worlds as I look at it. You get the full 5-6 mL a tank holds along with a tasty vape from the CE2. I did a review on them and have been using them for over a month and have decided I will not be going back to regular polly fill cartos even though I still have about 20 of them left lol.

Here is another review from Steve K.

Actually, I find the taste in a carto tank is different in this respect... If setup correctly, every hit is like the first hit off a freshly filled carto. I don't like cartos outside of a tank, but inside is a much different story.

Highly agree. A carto in a tank gives a premium hit everytime.
