I have been vaping for 4 months. I have been a week today without a cigarette. Very proud of myself and feel a lot better since just vaping. My question is I can't seem to taste my liquid much at all..I can tell what flavor but it's not as strong as normal. I have a daily rotation on liquid and every couple of days I switch flavors. Any advice on why this happens?
thanks in advanced!

First... Congratulations on your smoke-free week!

It sounds like you're suffering from the dreaded "Vapers Tongue"... the bane of nearly every vaper!
It does go away over time, but boy is it annoying to say the least! Some say a simple, temporary fix is to keep some fresh ground coffee nearby and occasionally smell the grinds to recharge your sense of smell, since that is the primary part of taste!

Keeping a glass of water around and sipping it regularly also can help... keeps you hydrated and does help to bring back the tastebuds.
It's a phenomenon that has many scratching their heads as to what exactly causes it.
Just keep changing up your flavors when you notice the flavor starting to fade. Try something new and see what happens!

Have you been keeping your heads clean or changing them out?

I'm not an expert but what I do is change flavors several times a day, not following a fruit with another fruit, or mint with another mint. That way your tongue won't get used to one flavor. Kinda like after you put on a cologne or perfume you don't smell it after time.

Hmmm... well put! :thumb:

Hi cbarnett and welcome to ECF!

I have nothing to add to the great advice above except to say that when your tastebuds do recover, you'll be in for a WOW moment! :)

Oh - and congratulations on the one-week anniversary! WOOHOO!

Happy Vaping!

I had that when I stopped smoking. Cigs are damaging in a lot of ways. When I first switched, everything was muted and plastic tasting. I was glad that I just happened to have got a peppermint flavor as part of my initial purchase. It took awhile to get taste back. I think it was a couple months.

Now, I get vapor tongue being on the same flavor for three hours. The flavor just doesn't seem to have the same taste. I switch tanks for awhile and return, and it is fresh tasting. Some switches help more than others. For me, some menthol is a good change up. They say a half cup of coffee helps, too. I just haven't tried it.

Hope helps

I have seen and experienced similar issuse as I am only two weeks off of death sticks. I read on another thread that gargling pickle juice helps. I tried as did my wife who is now one day off of the death sticks. It was a very noticable change after the pickle juice. In my opinion it is a lot like eating sushi. There is a process. When you eat sushi you have to clean your pallet between types or the flavor is lost. Hence why they offer pickled ginger. The pickle juice worked for me but I'm sure there is plenty of other remedies that will be effective. Google it, there is bound to be more info out there. I gargled for thirty seconds and swished as well. Hope this helps I was livid when I couldn't taste my juice. Good job on quitting!

In addition to changing flavors, also maybe switch to a higher PG juice for awhile? PG carries flavor better.
And fruits/sweet give longer taste for me.
I like tobaccos. When one gets bland, I switch to a blueberry, grape, strawberry or grape for a while.
I mix flavors too. Adding strawberry TO my tobacco changes and freshens the taste.

arghh, the dreaded "Vaper's Tongue"!!
Congrats on avoiding the cigs for a week!! The hardest part is almost over.

I usually vape the same flavor all day, every day (a great cake flavor).. But lately have been throwing other flavors into the mix, to keep the palate fresh. I did this because I noticed I would really taste the flavor a lot more if I hadn't vaped in awhile (early morning, late night), or if I was vaping on a different flavor profile for awhile before that.
I've been very prone to "vaper's tongue" it seems, and I try to be able to taste my juice as much as possible; if that makes sense.

But sometimes I noticed if I'm vaping a lot & chain hitting, all flavors seem a bit muted to me no matter what. Also, your setup (atty, coil, power, Airflow) have a LOT to do with it.

And I also bet that being just a week of cigs has a lot to do with it. You're regaining your sense of smell & taste, and body is adjusting to it all
