So I get into week five of vaping and I'm enjoying it less and less and all my liquids seem to taste the same. That is, I barely taste anything at all. I still seem to be getting plenty of vapor but the thrill is gone.

Has anyone else gone through this? I'm talking about liquids like EcoPure Rich, which tasted so good when I started them and now I don't seem to taste much of anything.

The hardware in question is Joye eGo with the 1000 mAh batteries. Cleaning the attys hasn't improved the experience.

Yes, I believe that we all go through this. I like to call it "flavor cycling." If you've been vaping the same flavors for a while, try switching to something stronger for a few days. You can also try eating a bit of crusty bread or a really strong mouthwash. That's not a guarantee that the flavor will come back. Have heart and keep vaping because the flavor will come back!

Rickajho - hi.

I find that sometimes. But i found a way around it (it works for me). I vary the juices i vape. It can happen to me within the course of one day. I start the day vaping grape...and it's delicious. But by lunchtime it doesn't taste the same. So i change. I have a staple liquid. One that i return to when this happens. I vape gold virginia for a day or two. Then i get back on to the juicy flavours and the taste is back.
This used to happen to me when i smoked. Some would taste awful but i had to smoke em because i was addicted.

Stick with one flavour for a couple of days and don't expect it to be all that pleasant. Then you're off and running again.

Maybe your cart foam needs a clean ?

I am in 'vaping hell' right now- its getting a little better- some flavors I love i still cant taste- some I am starting to- but mroe times than not- I dont taste anything-

I can SMELL it, so its not the juice.

I have went with fluxomizers, tanks and dual carto's. I think its mental partly, but the thought of all that cotton sucking up my expensive juice makes me mad. LOL

Also, I get better taste with my Riva than my ego- I think it burns hotter- 3.7 vs 3.2.

AND- the only thing that has worked for me is vaping cinibomb. I vape it and the next day I can usually taste my strawberry for a few hours.

It tastes like big red gum. its not bad, not my favorite, I prefer baked goods. But its not awful- so I can deal with it. BUT, I keep my 510's around just for my cinibomb- thats the only thing I use an atty and cart with. It seems to stick with the attie/carto.

I really wish there was a quick fix, I am going to go up to a 5 on vaping- I thnk I will get better taste that way- I am just picky about what I buy- I really love my riva- Like I said, the ego doesnt seem to be as good- even at 1100 vs my 650 riva.

I have also 'cleared' my pallet with 'fire and ice' or other 'mentholy' ones- I dont like those as much- so I stick with cinnibomb.

Yes and it can be made worse by drinking hot drinks or alcohol or having the taste of food in your mouth. Wind and fans can also be an issue since most of the flavor is the aroma. Just like with food, the tongue can only taste sweet, salty, bitter, sour and umami (MSG). Food also has visual and texture which vapor does not have. The rest is all aroma. You need to smell the vapor. Example - a cherry juice should have appropriate sweet/tart on the tongue but it won't be cherry unless you smell it.

But I find what works best for me is to alternate two contrasting flavors. I use cartomizers so my flavors are totally self-contained and separate. I usually alternate a barely sweet cocoa tobacco (mostly cocoa), sweet vanilla, and a sweet/sour fruit flavor. Each contrasts with the others in some way.

Really? That could be a problem because I had a bad reaction to PG so I'm using VG only.

Rick

I started DIY making flavorless base 80%VG and 20% H2O.
I added flavor to flavorless base.
It would kill my taste buds and drinking water didn't help.

I switched base to 70% to 90% PG.
Don't have that dead taste bud effect now.

80% VG 20% PGA seems to cleanse palette better than the 80%VG 20% H2O.
Maybe some PGA in place of H2O will help your buds?
Not sure.

When certain flavors just don't do it for me, then I will switch to another flavor for a bit. The switch may be nothing more than going from a coffee flavor from vendor A to a coffee flavor from vendor B, but the change seems to help me enjoy the original flavor that had lost its taste. I also keep some nice lemon ice juice which seems to clean my palette and a couple hours of vaping the lemon ice will make the next flavor taste better.

I just went through the loss of taste with vaping. This isn't just your taste buds 'becoming accustomed' to a particular taste. No juice seemed to have any taste but the base. It seemed that the flavoring just disappeared. This occurred with purchased juices and DIY juices. I've vaped unflavored juice before and this is what all the flavored juices I had tasted like; and 'smelled' like when exhaled through my nose. This lasted for about a week and a half before I started to get any flavor taste/smell back. This seems to have happened to a fair number of people and should not be confused with desensitization of a single flavor.

I too run an ego with 650 and 1000 mah batteries. I also use cartomizers which I absolutely love. I've tried 3-4 different juice vendors and always go back to FSUSA. Their juices are a 50/50 mix that provides great throat hit, vapor and taste. I started back in February with a SafeCig/RN4081 and their RY5 was the one I thought I would vape forever. Once I progressed to the Ego, it tasted like crap. So not I alternate primarily between their Butterscotch Almond and Black Cherry Smoothie and mix things up now and then with a home grown tobacco flavor or maybe a taste from a vendor I won't go back to. I've bought my fair share of juice that I truly regret, including some from FSUSA. Find a handful you like and alternate, including one or two you're not to crazy about but is still vapable. When you think you're getting sick of one of your favorites, load one up that just doesn't quite make the cut, then that next favorite flavor will taste even better when you get back to it.

Edit: I just re-read the thread and noticed you said you had a problem with PG. My advice still stands. Mix it up with VG based flavored juice only, if that is what it takes but keep going.

Yep, it's pretty common.
It will pass.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. I'll order some liquids in "more extreme" flavors to try and mix it up until this passes. Right now the Basic "big chill" (menthol) is working the best for what I have on hand. Anyone have suggestions for the biggest menthol flavor liquid out there? (VG only)

And has anyone tried a clove flavor? I know Boge makes one.

Vapor Bomb Artic Ice. Maybe you need to up the nicotine level?

Thanks about the Artic Ice.

I think I'm good on the nicotine level. (I had questions about that in another nOOb thread a couple weeks ago. You replied in that thread too.) I seem to have settled down nicely with 26 mg liquids. Some 30 mg on hand too... And 16 mg if I feel like vaping a lot in the evening when the hands aren't so busy, but don't feel like I need as much nicotine.

dormouse is right. Most of the flavor is in the aroma. When I have this issue I start french inhaling. I'm sure you are familiar with this, but if not, you basically fill your mouth with smoke (if smoking), or vapor (in our case), open your mouth slightly and gentle push it out while inhaling through your nose. This way you smell it and it really enhances the flavor. A bit of this and I can taste it again and inhale regularly.

Just offering a suggestion... might not work for you.

It sure did! And I figured it out on my own by accident this afternoon. I found that pushing a bit of vapor out and then open mouth inhaling - specifically, drawing the vapor across your tongue - makes a big difference in taste sensation.

Great mindless things alike,eh? :p

I guess it's easy to get into a bad habit of sucking on a pv like a straw until you are cross-eyed, and not pay attention to what is actually going on in your mouth with the vapor.

Rick

I re-read your post and realized I'm not quite doing the same thing. I'm not really drawing the vape in through the nose. Rather I'm opening my mouth more and inhaling to draw the vape (and air) across my tongue to get the taste sensation up.

Hey, whatever works! But if you're interested, here's a demonstration by a hot chick... with a cigarette :( Sorry, I could only find greasy guys doing it with vapeing, and who wants to watch that? (any vaping babes care to demonstrate on youtube so I can change the link?)
