I love my Mom and Dad. They smoked for a looong time. Mom actually made the suggestion that I try an e-cig at the mall vendor, as she had, and I guess that's what steered me to my journey into e-cigs. Since then, she was diagnosed with COPD. She was given a prescription for something to assist her quitting smoking. She gave them up cold-turkey for almost 2 months. Dad had quit analogs several years ago.

Now, begin rant. Run away, now if you feel compelled.

I bought Mom a 510 PCC kit to begin with last year, as she "wanted it to look like a cigarette". Dad tried it a little, and began using her equipment!! Grrr!! He was a non-smoker! She had a nasty cough prior to being diagnosed with COPD and I bought the kit for her to transition away from analogs, for her health. He ...... me off severely. He wanted to supplement his attempted weight loss with the increased metabolism that nicotine provides. Fine. I donated a Riva kit that I won in a drawing at our 1st local vape meet, so he would give Mom's equipment back to her. Unfortunately the little piddly 510 PCC kit was insufficient for her 2PAD habit. Things weren't properly maintained and they just basically put no effort into sustaining the "habit".

They both began smoking again! Grrr!! Dad had been tobacco-free for several years. I was sooo ......, because he had a stroke a few years before (recovered well enough, thanks for your concern). Cussed him like a good son should for being an idiot. "How many strokes do you need to have??"

I had dove head-long into vaping, DIY, modding, basically as hard-core as one can be in this society. Since the stop-smoking med that Mom had been on wasn't doing the trick (caught her smoking last week and I almost popped a blood vessel!) and she was worried about weight gain, I, being the loving son and builder, built her a hardcore, all-day metal boxmod with on-board charger eGo connector and 18650. Just fill the carto and go with it. No muss, no fuss. Dad jacked it! *&%$#!!!!

The real gripe is this: They have no interwebz!! They don't want it. I have to do EVERYTHING for them as far as selection, purchase, mixing, EVERYTHING!! They basically refuse to make any effort to their habit, other than saying, "We need more juice." I have to order it and wait for it to be delivered!! You're out?? What's your backup plan??

In the last week I have spent almost $200 on equipment, supplies, batteries, juices, tanks, etc. Just shooting in the dark for something that will sustain them until I go to visit and check their inventory.

I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for reading.

/rant

I know I owe them, immeasurably, for the years they spent raising me. I do love them. I have no children of my own, so I guess this is my penance for not giving them grandkids. I get to support their vaping. Whee!!

Any suggestions?? Please?

It's not every day you get to save somebody's life. Even less often will it be someone you've known and loved your whole life.

One advantage analogs have over pvs still is convenience. In total, by the time you go through .... disposal, cleaning out ashtrays, and repairing burn holes in your upholstry it evens out, but all those hassles of smoking are after the fact. When you're searching for instant gratification, just walking into a nearby convenience store and grabbing a pack is infinitely faster and simpler than ordering and setting up a good vape setup. That's the gap we have to overcome to convert our less tech-inclined and internet-connected loved ones to vaping, so concentrate your efforts on making it as convenient for them as possible. And when you're doing it, try not to think of it as a hassle. Think of how rare it is to have the opportunity for an ordinary person to play the part of Superman, pump your fist, pat yourself on the back, and enjoy being a real live-saving hero, all with a few simple mouse clicks on a vaping website.

I completely agree, I think what you're for your Mom and Dad doing is terrific, they raised a good son (I assume you a man from your user name, if not your a good daughter).

Don't be afraid to ask them for some financial compensation, especially if it is taxing your finances. They might not realize the cost involved, and vaping does tend to nickle and dime a person into big bucks.

Dougie, this is the greatest thing that you can do for them... If they are anything like my cousin that I helped convert they need it as simple as possible or they will not sustain... Picking up a smoke and a lighter is easy - remembering to refill before you get a dry hit, keep the battery charged, how to inhale, etc. sounds complicated to them.

I am not not trying to steal the thread, but this is what I did for my cousin. I started her with a 510 Joye kit with two batts and some carts. She went back to smokes within a month. She said it was to hard to remember, did not satisfy all her cravings and was messy (?)... I traded her to a Volt 78mm kit with wall charger. I bought her 10 cartos prefilled and gave her 45ml of juice (3 15ml bottles from my DIY)... This is a months supply for her - I drop by with 10 new cartos and 45ml of juice each month and visit while I am there. The Volt is warmer at 3.6v and the size was closer to a large cigarette and so far she has stuck to it... (Oh and auto batts). I will give her a couple more months and then I will give her the telephone number so she can order her own... I could have done that in the beginning, but I wanted to make sure she would stick with it - I will still visit and check, but she needs to sustain herself...

What you are doing is a great thing. I lost my Dad to lung cancer. He was only 50. Still smoked 'til the day he breathed his last breath. Mom passed at 80. Smoked for at least 60 of those years. I wish I had been given the opportunity you have right now. I was blessed with the chance to care for my Mom the last 10 years of her life but wish I had known about this option for her.

You have been given the gift of making life so much better for your parents. I know it probably doesn't seem like a gift when they frustrate you so badly but it is a gift none the less and in the end you will cherish all the extra years you will have with them if they will stick with this. I hope this gets better for you and them quickly. I can see how much you want it to work.

As VapRon suggested. Always make 2. that way your mom will get to keep hers. Hang in there and just come on in here whenever the load gets too heavy. We will be here for you.

I'm actually swamped right now, so modding is kinda a when-I-can type thing. Instead, I outfitted them with matching Indulgence V3s (18650= all day vaping), 5ml DCTs w/ eGo tank cones, 4 batts (2/ea), 2 chargers.

A saving grace is that they only want menthol tobacco flavors. Bluemistvaping's "Smooth" fits the bill nicely with some extra menthol added.

I made sure to emphasize to them both that "You're not smoking. Your apparatus does not have to look like a cigarette. You can't use cigarettes anywhere you want. You can use a Personal Vaporizer, though! As long as it doesn't look like a cigarette, you have less opportunity for conflict."

Somewhere out there
How about teaching mom to DIY, give her the nic liquid all mixed ready go at her nic level, then buy her some capella's flavor or Perfumer Apprentice and a bunch of 10 ml squeeze bottles. If she can cook she can do DIY like this :) If you put the nic juice in a glass bottle with eye dropper that shows the marks, just have her fill her plastic bottles with nic and figure out how many drops she needs of flavor ( I use 5-10%) Let her have fun making her own fabulous flavors to become a part of process. Plus you will save alot of money! LOL She can do it :) bnrk

Congratulations for helping them out. I'm 72 and I found that the less fuss and muss the better I liked vaping. I like a 3 ml carto and a 1300 mah battery so I only have to refill maybe once or twice a day. Too bad they haven't ventured into the world of the computer and internet. I got a laptop for my mother when she was 89 and she was able to use it for Skype and email. She loved Skype and before she had a stroke last year would visit with me for hours at a time.

I think you're AWESOME!! About all you can do is find out their favorite juices & consumption rate, and then buy a 2 or 3 months supply for them. Replenish with the same quantity, about 2 weeks or a month before they're due to run out. It'll minimize your hassle to a degree.

p.s. I have to serve as the IT geek for my mother & her husband, AND for my mother-/father-in-law. It chaps my ... sometimes, but it's a familial responsibility that I accept as part & parcel of of our relationship.

I second Vapron's suggestion to make 2 mods at once. Another suggestion, if you want a special one to stay in your mom's hands, might be to make a colour appealing to her and NOT to your dad. As for the juice supply, perhaps you can figure how much they use in a week and try to keep them topped off with orders every month.

Finally, and mostly, good on you for helping out your parents.

Not a chance I'd run away! You are amazing! I totally agree with the the other posts - keep it simple and duplicate everything so they have no excuse! At least with vaping you can anticipate their needs and order ahead of time and that will keep it simple for you. How lucky you are to have the intelligence, ability and love to be able to do this for your parents. At some point down the road you will look back and be glad you did. And when you do have a moment of frustration go back and read the post from Sanity Challenged.
