image.jpg So this is one of my first builds...worked great for a week and I decided to rewick from organic to Japanese cotton. After doing so it would taste horrible and burnt after 2-3 hits.....also needed to redrip after 2-3 hits.

Is this considered a hot spot? And how can it happen after working great for a week?

thanks

Definitely a hot spot (short). No wick near the hot spot, so its not getting cooled by e-liquid.

Also check the post screws to insure they didn't come loose when you changed your wick.

I suggest making a micro coil instead of an open coil. A microcoil is less likely to develop hot spot shorts and provides more equal heat across the length of the coil.

Yup, you've got a hot leg that's causing juice to burn. No part of the coil should glow red when it's wicked and wet. Take out the cotton, fire the coil until it gets hot, let go of the button and squeeze the coil together with tweezers. Fire it again and you should see the coil glow from the center out and no hot leg. If not, repeat.

IMO you do not have too little cotton in there. You can certainly use more if you want, but lack of cotton is not the root cause of the hot leg. This is how I wick my Trident and it vapes great for me (even though it needed to be cleaned;)):
