The 18490s have a 3ml bottle instead of a 6ml. They're shorter. It's like the current difference between mini and grand.

Eventually, the current batch of pictures from the last woodville sale will disappear from REOs site... If you were to notice that, it might be indicative of an upcoming sale... At least, I think that might be pretty much what happened last time. I have read no hint of when there might be a new batch of woodvilles, but I don't follow all the threads very closely. The woodvilles are labor intensive and their rarity keeps a certain mystique about them.

The larger Woodvil is simply called a "Woodvil", it takes an 18650 battery and a 6ml bottle same as a Reo Grand does.
The smaller Woodvil is called "Woodvil 18490" amd takes a 3ml bottle and 18490 battery same as a Reo Mini 2.1.

Often in photos its hard to judge scale and the easiest way to tell a Woodvil apart from a Woodvil 18490 is that the latter has a different fire switch, it is a different style, smaller, flatter at the front, and has a brass surround.

Here's a good link showing pics of the two models further down on the first page.

For some Reo history, showing pics of the various Reo mods as they were built, have a look at this wonderful thread. Pics of the last run Woodvils start at around page 30 or 31.

Many thanks to nerak and Rhapsodies Fire for these threads!

ETA - oops, nerak, we posted at the same time!

Sweet! thanks! Do all the Woodvils only take a 15mm or less atty unless someone mods one?

All the Woodvils released in this last run do. Some (many.....maybe most) of the older ones have even smaller cups....or taller cups, and won't even fit the RM2s without modification. I have a couple of older Woodvils that I've had to shorten (grind down) the cup to make them work with an RM2.

I am glad I am not the only one to do this....

I didn't have the nerve to grind mine down. I talked with Robert and was willing to send a few in for the surgery. But he said that one of them plus a RM2 and he could get any of them to work with that RM2!

He was right! Catch cups are intact and the RM2 is fitting well!

Hi Jan,
I sent "Uti" to Rob for the same surgery! Should be back any day now. She is my daily driver so wanted to have the option of using RM2 even though the Hornet is working quite nicely on her. Always nice to have options and you know how little ladies like to change hats!
