Well, we survived Mothers Day ... and now we can start getting ready for the big, important one ... Fathers Day!!!

We had a great day at the lake. And we never got to go fishing at all, but still had a lot of fun. Son-in-law and a real good friend of ours who is a retired Texas Highway Patrolman went in 50/50 on a thing called an "Island." Its a huge, inflatable raft that is really nice. The friend brought a good sized air compressor with him to get this monster filled with air and even using it, it took a long time to fill. This Island has seats, two coolers, a hole in the center to enter the water and is about the neatest thing I've seen in a long time.

So we get it filled with air and got life jackets on all the kids and towed them out into the lake with the deck boat and just left them to swim and play and enjoy themselves. And they did enjoy themselves! Some of the kids were older, in their teens and good swimmers, and capable of keeping an eye on the younger ones, so everybody was safe.

In the meantime us guys were doing the cooking and managed to come up with a lot of pretty good food and the fried catfish was delicious! I prefer peanut oil for deep frying catfish but one of the kids has a peanut allergy so we had to use vegetable oil, but the fish came out real good. And there was a lot of it!

Before I knew it, it was getting late and someone asked the question (there's one in every crowd) ... "what are we going to do with the Island?" This matter was discussed at length and the decision made to let out half of the air and fold it over, put the deck boat in the boat house and then pull the Island in on top of the deck boat. Good decision ... in theory.

That Island was heavy when it was empty and in the box. You wouldn't believe how heavy this monster thing was half filled with air! Not to mention unmanageable! We had some real big, strong men there and it was a battle trying to get that thing on the deck boat. In fact, we gave up and just dragged it in on the boathouse walkway between the two boat stalls cursing the two dummies who went 50/50 buying the danged thing in the first place.

Anyhow, it was a great Mothers Day and everyone had a fine time visiting, eating and playing.

And I'm tired and going to bed to dream of Fathers Day and nice presents. I always get some nice fishing things for Fathers Day!!!

Have a good night everyone!
