We're worn out too. We went to the Big Burro Mountains south of Silver City and did the rock hunting thing. Honey girl came back with a big sack of rocks and a big smile on her face. She was really happy with the rocks she found.
She just told me she was going in to take a shower because she really needed it. I asked that she take two showers ... please. I think it was right around that moment that she hit me. Evidently I sailed right out of the trailer's screen door and landed in the gravel with my right leg stuck between the seat and table of a plastic and steel picnic table wondering why I was laying in the gravel of an RV Park looking at the stars in the sky.
Does this story sound familiar? Dang, that girl has a right upper-cut that just doesn't quit!!!
Anyhow, after she tired of rock hunting (FINALLY!!!!) we drove north of Silver City to look at the forest fire from an elevated vantage point. This thing was immense with a huge, billowing cloud of smoke. At the moment it is zero per cent contained and a second fire has started near Aragon, New Mexico. This morning the news said the larger fire had consumed 122,000 acres of forest ... I don't know what it is now at the end of the day. But its big and its bad.
We stopped at a Wendy's in Silver City on the way home and by gosh they had the codfish sandwiches I like so much. We had them for a while in East Texas and I hadn't seen them again until we got to the Wendy's here.
I have a lot of pics to download and will do it tomorrow while honey girl is doing some laundry. If I can get tiny Pics to work I'll post some of them. If not, I'll try uploading them to ProtoBrucket.

Didn't get to go rock hunting here but did get most of the deck stained at the camper and had a nice little cookout with family. Other than that, nothing too exciting...which was nice for a change.

Hi Everyone! Its 1:18 here and honey girl had a cramp in her leg and I got up to sit with her until she felt better and thought I'd go ahead and download some of our pics.
This is the fire in the Gila Wilderness I was telling you about. Its only three pics and a short film clip, but pretty impressive pics.

This fire has now consumed 133,000 acres of fantastically beautiful countryside but the heavy cloud of smoke you see in the pics is headed straight for kgj's part of New Mexico.
The town of Mogollon (pronounced mug-ee-yawn) which is partly a ghost town has now been completely evacuated and I'm really hoping it doesn't burn. This town and the surrounding area is rich in history and has always been one of our favorite places to visit.
As we went toward Silver City on Monday we observed a near steady stream of various types of RV's leaving. I guess these people saw the fire and didn't want to be anywhere around and were leaving the area.
This fire leaves me with a lot of concerns, but right now the most important one to me personally is kgj and his family. I hope the heavy smoke heading his way doesn't chase him and his family away from their home.

We got home from vacation only to discover a forest fire about 10-15 miles east of us. The tropical storm's rain seems to have put it out. The forest needs fire but with all the houses in the middle of them that can be a big problem too.
Actually, we're not getting any of the smoke. The winds are out of the west and keeping the smoke north of us.
Gummy Bear is right, the forests do need the fires. One thing I have always liked about the Gila Wilderness is that there is almost no underbrush and the fires keep it that way. The fires also provide nitrogen for the trees making them stronger and healthier. Its only been in the last 70 years that we started fighting fires in the forests and prior to that they we allowed to burn themselves out.
On the other hand when there is a fire like this a lot of game is displaced, old towns destroyed and beautiful ranches ruined for a while.
Have to take the good with the bad I guess.
kgj, I'm just glad to hear the smoke isn't bothering you and others in your area any more than it is. That's good news.

There's also a lot more people that are starting those fires but Gummy is right, it's nature's way.
Exactly, JJ! This is what upsets me. The Pyromaniacs out there that are starting these fires for the thrill. Natural is one thing but I don't think that the forests are supposed to be dealing with the manmade stuff
I have lots to do today but I hope that everyone has a great Tuesday. For those that have to work in order for TT to keep enjoying his life of leisure, at least most of you have a short week this week.
