We have wayyyy too much house, but my wife won't even talk about selling it and getting something smaller.

Oh well, it makes a good museum for all the stuff I've dragged home from all over the world.

TT

The hosue that we have now is way too big IMO. I wanted to build about a 1500-1800 sft house. But noooooooo............ DH would not have anything under 2000 sft. So, we have 2400 sft with a huge backscreened porch 12x40 (built for smoking and our birds lol) Our living room is so big and we never use it unless we have company. It is like a huge azz hallway to us. It is nice when our son and grandson come to visit. We have hardwoods throughout and gs loves pushing the cars with the worst plastic tires he can find around on them lol

We have nearly the exact situation except that we have a formal living room downstairs and the big room is "my den" upstairs where we are always hanging out. Real hardwood floors where there isn't carpeting, a hutch made mucho many years ago in Europe with curved glass that would be about impossible to replace, Dutch Delft pieces that couldn't be replaced ... on and on. I get a little nervous when small children are about and that's one of the reasons for the lake houses.

My wife wants to leave this house to all the kids and they are to sell it and divide the profits as part of their inheritance.

I told her there was going to be one hell of a gunfight in the front yard when we pass.

Oh, TT :( I hope not. I hate to see that kind of thing happen.

DH always says that he pities the fool that breaks in to our house. They may feel badly for us and actually leave us something lol

I do think that I like this better than living in a museum though. My GS is rough and I would hate not to be comfortable when he is here.

We actually bought the plans to do a basement home where we are now. It was 1200 sft upstairs and 1200 sft in the basement. I loved that plan! We got all the way to the start of build and our builder came up with every excuse in the worl why we could not build that house here. I think that he underbid and was trying to back pedal. We absolutely have enough of a hill here. We were told by many other builders and you would not want to get to the bottom of that hill and have to walk back up. trust me on that. But, it makes a great sled riding hill when it snows :)

When we moved here and built a house, we had to keep in mind the fact that my mom would most likely one day live with us. The basement would have been great!

I am so VV for all my mods. Don't think I could ever go back.
I did win the Super-mini GV (?). Still waiting on the custom paint to be done. Not sure if I'll keep it ot not.

Are you feeling any better?

My wife has everything marked and identified for each individual ... but you know how that goes in a family.

My thoughts are get rid of all of it and divide the monies among the kids after we're both gone.

But ... my wife is a woman ... with different thought processes.

TT

Your plan sounds like a good one. I have seen so many families divided after something like that. I just don't get it. When DHs Memaw and Poppa passed, they had wars over the stupidest stuff. We stayed out of it. DH was his fishing buddy and was always promised all of his fishing gear when he was gone. It was not worth even trying to get something as simple as that and that was more sentimental than valuable. The vultures were out in force! He comes from a HUGE family.
