So I changed my coil and wick yesterday. Kanthal coil with just regular cotton I got from a buddy. Can't remember what exactly it is. I've used it before without any problems. Well anyway, It's single coil. Looped 4 times. It's reading 1.15 ohms which is what I always have it at. So I built it everything was fine. Got it primed up I took a few puffs at about 17watts and it was good. Then I started getting a burnt hit. Took it all apart again checked everything out the wick is saturated with juice. Put it all back together. Everything was fine again till after the fifth puff. Gross burnt taste and smell. So I took it apart. Built everything all over again. Tried again. Same thing. Everythings good for the first few puffs then bam burnt taste and smell. My wick is saturated and it isn't even burnt. Idk what I'm doing wrong here cuz I've never had this problem with this tank before and I don't really want to keep building and throwing out coils and wicks for no reason. Any ideas?? It comes and goes so it's really boggling me.

Lack of air flow and liquid flow would be my first suspects.

Coil building is a science. Wicking is an art. Too much cotton is inviting a burn; too little is inviting a leak. Just right is a trial and error exercise.

It's one reason why I don't bother with coil building.

Hard to offer help without more detail about the 'build'.

To get 1.15Ω with 4 wraps 3mm ID = 29ish gauge kanthal.
Thats going to heat instantaniously & probably give at least an odd funky or burnt taste every 3-5 hits at 17w. 380mw/mm2 is well into the burn liquid almost every hit range.

Of course the burnt taste could be coming from the liquid in the tank, after you get a burnt taste most times it taints the remaining liquid.
High VG liquids probably won't wick fast enough to keep up with that kind of instant & high heat flux.
Will take an enormous amount of airflow to cool the coil enough to prevent burning.
The above are guesses, without details hard to give much accurate help.

Sweet liquids will make matters worse.
