Getting in my car last night, and I felt something burning on my leg. Pulled my subox mini out, and found that the battery cover had fallen off, not sure exactly what happened from there but the mod was hot to the toouch, and smoking by the positive end. Threw it out the window and left it in the yard until it was cool. The battery seems to have welded itself at the positive end.
So, any suggestions for a replacement? I liked the subox, and got over a year out of it. I don't want to go any bigger, and I don't need more power. Might be nice to go a bit smaller.

Did you have other items in your pocket as well as the subox? Asking because that is very concerning if a short happened somewhere.
Keys, change, a pocket knife...
Definately a bad combo, any other metal can cause a short. If you put a mod in your pocket be sure fire button is turned off and nothing else is in your pocket :) Those metal objects caused a short.
Since the battery door came off, the bare battery was exposed to other metal in your pocket. If the battery wrapper had holes exposing the bare battery casing, that caused the battery to short. At the very least, coins or keys in contact with the battery caused it to short.

You got off relatively lucky just losing your mod. You could have gotten second or third degree burns from such an accident. When batteries vent, they expell extremely hot and toxic gas. Below is a battery which vented inside a book bag when it was exposed to metal. Could you imagine this happening inside your pocket?
