The proper way to start off an Atty and break it in is as follows and it works I've been doing for a longggg time :

Blow out the nasty stuff first, then Put a condom on the bottom threaded end 2nd, fill that Atty up above the bidge with liquid let it drop down in the Atty and then top off so the liquid sits just above the bridge. Let that Atty sit like this for a while until the wick, Bridge, and all internals are soaked very well, ( 15 min or so ) Now take that Atty pull off the condom lightly blow out that juice that's been sitting in it, screw it on and vape ! This is true, tried, tested, and works every time, the insides of that Atty are prepped and the internals are all soaked especially the wick ! I see people telling other put 2-3 drops in take a vape don't inhale and repeat a few times, NO ! this is not correct, if the wick on an Atty starts off with the slightest dry burnt spot on it then it will never taste like the way I described above would. That's that, try it, it works !!!

It's probably solder flux. I get it in CE2's, clearomizers, etc, just soak and rinse BEFORE using them, once that stuff gets into the wick it takes awhile to get it out, not to mention the whole yuck aspect of the vape in your mouth.

If you soak them before using, the flux doesn't get into the wick.

Johnking, you are correct as far as the soak !!!

this problem is why I buy the lr eastmalls for libertyflights you get a pack of 5 for 19.95, and I get around 2 months out of them. I tried the cisco lr 306s one had the bad burnt taste both died with in 2 days on my reos I was very disapointed in them. so for me cheap is the way to go

They are a work horse, I have about 100 of the original EM LR-510's from when they first where introduced @ $3ea. The Iken 2ohm & HV however is a superior Atty and you wont get that harsh taste with them that you do with some Atty's . In fact the Iken HV-510 is what I run these days, it is the best dam vape on the planet if used properly and kept wet, I run them on bottom fed Box Mods @ 6V-6.6V and they just put out a massive amount of great vapor with over the top taste

I have gone thru alot of different styles of cartos and the one problem that they all have is that nasty taste. Some styles fair much better than others, and some always give that taste. Sometimes I've gotten only two good tasting cartos out of five. Sometimes all five are bad. And very rarely all five are good. It depends alot on what you use to vape with. Do you use 3.7 or 5 or 7 volts? Sometimes it depends on the juice, how thin it is effects it's wicking ability. There seems to be alot of variables but there must be a solution this is not rocket science.

Try the Iken 2ohm and especially the HV-510 with 2 x 3.2 LiFePO4 AW Batts, it will blow you far away Kabonk

I've never had an atty/carto/clearo that had a metallic, burnt or plastic taste. I use mine straight out of the box, without cleaning or prepping or breaking them in... I've also never paid more than $9.00 for an atty, and with the exception of one clearomizer that stopped working, every atty/carto/clearo I have still works.

After some use they tend to taste a bit odd/strong, usually just blowing them out takes care of that. occasionally washing them out with water helps.

?

What type of vaping device are you using? And is it 3.7v, 5v, or 7v?

Good to see your post! I was starting to think that I am an atty snob 8-o

I got plenty of horribly tasting stuff that would take weeks to get decent...just before dying on me

I also find the rituals of blowing / cleaning / priming extremely annoying.

I have settled for buying dry atomizers (unpack, screw in, add juice and haaaahhh...).

I am sure that you can buy them from several sources. I buy mine from liquidnicotine.com.

Good luck and good vape :)

I have 510's ( the cig look alike kind (Joye I think), only with black or white tops/atty's), that were PIF'd to me to start vaping with. I was given reg 510 atty's as well. That was almost 3 months ago, and I'm still using them. I clean them regularly by just blowing them out real well, and a couple dry burns. I haven't lost one yet. I bought extra atty's but haven't opened the box yet.

ETA: sometimes I drip, sometimes I use a cart.

I am the same as you, restricted to posting in the new members thread but have been vaping over a year.
I think the problem lies with the 510 atomizer construction. I purchased mine from a reliable vendor, Rick at atmosusa.biz, but I have a 6v device, which is a lot of power and burns them out quickly. Rick recently started selling "clearomizers" (although he doesn't have any in stock right now) which I say is a huge step up in the vaping world. It is an atomizer you can fill with fluid, and it's clear so you can see the fluid level. We've had not a burnt taste or problem yet, and we've been using the same ones for 2 weeks. That's the longest life I've ever gotten from a standard 510.
My husband listens to "vaportalk" on podcast. They addressed this issue, saying the 510 atomizer has been neglected in all the "new" and better modifications to vaping. I believe the clearomizers are the way to go.
