I know in the beginning of this thread doug spoke about the possibility of changing the carbon fiber panels for wood panels, has anyone done this? I've been trying to do it but the wood needs to be so thin that it warps... I'm wondering if maybe stabilized wood would be better for this or maybe even necessary for this, just curious if anyones seen this done?

I would recommend soaking it in an epoxy and allow it to harden, then sand it smooth again. The epoxy needs to be a very slow cure to allow the wood to soak it up. This would make the wood very hard and crack resistant.
Hope this helps,
Dan

exactly what I was going to say Dan. That wears like iron too so you get the best of both worlds.

Here it is next to the genuine article. Had to use an adapter that is made out of brass. But most of that little part isn't in the juice.

thanks guys, that's what I was thinking... I made these panels and the BB looks really spectacular with brushed aluminum and the wood panels. I was really hoping to go with a natural wood finish, but just wetsanding the panels a bit on the mod and the wood just curled up and lifted itself off the mod even though it was epoxied on, the wood really curved, almost like a pringles potato chip type curved and warped. next ones I'll def use stabilized from the beginning but I'm going to try to stabilize these already finished panels just because I've got so much work into them already, I might be able to stabilize them with cyanoacrylate enough that no water will penetrate.

Managed to get a couple of boroblack tanks, received a message from Anne at BBvapor and replied asking a question.

Surprised to get a telephone call from her and add to my order before despatch.

Hopefully someone from the company will read this because I would like to praise the customer service at BBvapor, not forgetting that it was a transcontinental call.

Excellent company, excellent products and excellent customer service, many thanks Anne.

Kable, as much as I love my "raw" B Box (original version) and will not ever let it part from my life, the anodized are FAR superior in several ways, and you nailed the primary one. It is smooth as silk, and requires FAR less cleaning and maintenance. LOVE it!

willow eyelidsdrooping, why would I want to PM you? I'm keeping yer glass faced tank. :p

:blink:O! ok

Well (it's a long story, but will try the short version) - I have 'OA'. As well as multiple other issues, like, due to a genetic blood disorder I must take blood thinners for life (and INR blood tests every four weeks), and due to anemia caused by internal bleeding, I am no longer allowed to take any type of NSAID-ever again (anti-inflammatories).
2009 left knee replaced (nine prior surgeries)
2010 right hip replaced
2011 right shoulder 'rebuilt' (tear in cuff, bone spurs, lots of threads, and one tendon 'stitched') - eight weeks in a sling
2014 right knee replaced (July)
2014 left shoulder 'rebuilt' (OCT) - small cuff tear, bone spurs, threads cut off, the 'ball' end of the bone smoothed out

Left hip is due 'sometime' - hope to wait til winter 2015.

'Trigger-finger' issues, 3 on right hand, 2 on left hand - not fixed yet.

I know, I know - I ought to know some/most of the medical terms by now, but honestly I just don't want to know, as knowing won't help me. I say something hurts, so they take X-rays, and/or MRI and tell me it's junk and when do I want to 'fix' it? Apparently, the left shoulder is bad enough, they are waiting to see what my healed pain-level will be in order to determine if they should 'replace' it. Shoulder replacements are not as good as knee or hip replacements I am told - so my Ortho always tried a 'repair' first. I am told the 'ball' of my left shoulder is badly worn (as in flat in one place), and this repair may or may not do me much good.

So far, while not 'pain-free', everything (not counting the left shoulder yet) is far and away much better than each one was pre-op. The goal here is to (hopefully) lower my pain-meds while keeping a decent quality of life, and making it possible for me to exercise for both weight loss and heart health.

Aren't you glad you asked? ;)

Oh Peter O' C....... :( It's been a rough road for you. Thankfully you're doing better than you were. Wishing you a decent and THEN SOME quality of life!

Stud, that looks fantastic. Does it work equally? If so, make a few...... dozen. Ya never know. ;)

I could not agree with you more, Kycap. BBV is outstanding in every respect. We are really VERY lucky.

It works exactly like the original or I should say it fits and is exactly the same size. Screws right on. I have enough faith in it to send Cat the original and keep that one.
Oh but you have to remember I'm almost blind.

I eat that Ibuprofen Like candy. I'm afraid someday I'll have thin blood issues.

Thin blood in and of itself is not a bad thing, lowers your risk of heart attack or stroke, besides others. It's when your blood gets 'too thin' - and you start bleeding internally - that can kill you - that's what happened to me last DEC - magically woke up with a huge bruise on the back of my left thigh - took them (the hospital) 2 visits and 5 days to realize what was happening - and took nearly 3 months to recover completely.

Wow, sounds like you've had to deal with a lot. [insert obligatory RoboCop joke here] Hell, if you did know all the medical jargon you'd be an orthopedic surgeon yourself. I'm sorry to hear you've had to suffer the amount of pain you must have gone (and continue to go) through. Not being able to take ibuprofen must make that especially difficult to deal with that many joint issues, too. They must have you on a good dose of oxycodone or hydrocodone. I'm glad the operations have been helping. I wish you a fast and full recovery. Are you going to be taking physical therapy to help you recover? Are you taking glucosamine chondroitin / msm and fish oil? Oh no, I'm starting to sound like my wife (she's a nurse).

Yes to PT and rehab work (tis all I been doin since AUG). As for the fish oil, etc - that would help, if there was any cartilage/non-rotted joints - am far and away past that, and the replaced parts it won't help. I've been on daily morphine (pill form) since 2008, highest daily dose was 180mg, currently down to 60-75mg daily. The 'goal' is to drop to 30mg daily (time release) time will tell.

so here a question, when i slide the door it feels not really smooth. is this normal?
im afraid overtime it will damage the anodized colour.

Yes it's normal. No it doesn't wear off or mine hasn't and it will slide easier as time goes by.

It needs to be a bit stiff to open, to stay closed in normal use. When I got mine (plain anodised) new, there was a certain amount of resistance on the sliding door. Over time, the resistance got greater; so I followed the instructions and cleaned the slots with a cotton bud with a drop of olive oil. It then became so loose, it began to open itself in my pocket; so I cleaned it again, with a dry cotton bud. Been good since. (I found, need to poke at bud to get an edge on it; round shape won't go right into the slots. But I wouldn't worry about that for some weeks/months, depending on how exposed your BB is to dust / grime / accidental spillages when refilling!)

so I figured out how to deal with these really thin wood panels, no choice but to stabilize them. I used cyanoacrylate to completely seal the wood and to attach the wood to the body, now it's perfect, I can submerge it and wetsand it and the wood is like glass, not going to get any moisture in there at all... still working out the finals but it's getting there :)

the only problem now is, I don't know how I could be able to do something like this on an anodized new BB, here I needed to refinish the wood at the same time as I refinish the aluminum so I can get the whole thing completely flush, trying to finish the panels to 100% without being attached to the mod would be much much more difficult, and finishing it on the mod without damaging the anodized finish would be near impossible.
