A Dynamic Li'l Marvel ~ The bOd Mecha!

Well, I've been playing around with this svelte li'l mod for a few weeks now, am awestruck and thought I should share my feelings with you good folks. This is a device which isn't often talked about, but is designed to out perform many others. Has some unique features and thus definitely needs a larger audience!

WHAT IS IT? KEY FEATURES:
1. Mechanical Mod (Telescopic)
2. Top Firing Switch
3. Airflow Control Ring with Locking Mechanism
4. juice Collecting & Recycling System
5. Silver Plated Contacts
6. Self-Adjusting 510 connector
7. Two Tone finish throughout, in all SS
8. Configurable, either telescopic or Sectional (with optional parts)

1. LOOKS AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS ~10/10

Aesthetics, probably is the first criteria for many while choosing their mods, mine definitely is, and the bOd is a real 'looker'. A beautifully crafted two-tone steel hits you immediately upon unpacking. Pictures cannot justify the real true beauty of this nifty mod. There's a wow factor involved in it's 'brushed-polished-brushed' getup. It also has a nice heft and sturdy feel, which is very reassuring. Besides, it comes with a black leather carry-pouch, which is a pleasant surprise! And the initial thought, straight out of the box, is to load a battery, plonk an atty and go flaunt it. Super awesome feel here!

2. BUILT, MATERIAL, FIT & FINISH ~10/10

Made of all stainless steel, except for the contacts, which probably are brass (the bottom spring is) but cannot make out since they are well Silver plated, the overall device emanates bespoke quality. The threads are smooth and upon assembly each unit merges into the other like they are milled from one block but polished differently. There's a class in the way it has been put together. The machining is top notch, gauge of the material is heavy and the manufacturing process endorses the skilful flair of the modder ~ like his heart has gone into its making. Overall the device is built and finished excellently.

3. VERSATILITY ~9/10

Being a telescopic mod, the bOd accepts all the three 18xxx series batteries, individually as per our preference.

It also can be configured as a sectional unit by purchasing optional 15mm Sleeves and removing the internal telescoping tube. In the same way, by removing also the bottom spring an 18350 battery could be plonked inside for its smallest configuration. But of course a slight unthreaded gap could be visible unless an 18350 of the right dimension is inserted (or by filing-off the +ve button of the battery).

The only issue comes up when using in 18650 mode. At this config, the telescoping tube just manages to hold-on to the main body. And the internal vent hole becomes tad visible. This can tho be negated by using the telescopic tube with the Sleeve attached (the far right pic above). And thus also have another 'polished' circumference in the middle, cool eh!

However, since it needs purchasing the optional Sleeve, as without which we will have a slightly un-robust 18650 config, I feel this is where I could reduce one point, if I may, in my factor scoring. There's a way around, but comes at a price!

4. FIRING MECHANISM ~10/10

The best part of this uber class device is in it's Firing Switch. Remember the erstwhile Omega Mod anyone? Taking hints from that long forgotten Mod the bOd incorporates the same compression firer at it's top end. However, it also ups it further by placing a cool Locking Ring! Currently thus, it is the only Mech.Mod available with this technology, which makes it unique. Gone are our pinky woes, or our aversion to side buttons... in fact the bOd has no button at all! Simply unlock the ring and gently press the atty down and voila! Cool (2)!

Few vapers also push the bOd itself against our teeth, to fire it up... might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it performs either way well. Yes, we may fumble with this technique initially, but it's so effortless that it soon becomes our second nature. A big shout-out to 'By Leo' for this foxy design!

5. TOP-CAP SYSTEM ~9/10

In continuity to the foregoing, the bOd's top-cap has certain other unique features as well. For one, it is "self-adjusting". Which means, tho it doesn't have an 'user-adjustable' telescopic 510 post it yet somehow manages to flat-fit every atty by itself ~ and fires them perfectly!

For two, the bOd's top-cap incorporates a "juice collecting chamber", which catches any leakage from our 'bottom air-fed' attys (viz. Tank-RBAs) saving us from any juicy mess. But that's not all, it also re-pumps that juice ~ up thru the atty's 510 pin ~ back to the coil. And it does this very well indeed! Making this feature by far it's most useful asset.

For three, there's an AFC (Air-Flow Control) Ring in this top-cap. Which is both, an AFC as well as the Locking Ring (LR) of the Mod. Cool (3)! This AFC/LR is buttery smooth too, rotatable just by one hand. And also effectively controls the air-flow from fully closed to fully open... and anything in between.

The only gripe with this feature is that it invariably 'locks' the mod thru unintentional rotation while in it's 'tighter air-flow' position/s if you chose to have your draw that way. Not an issue if you keep the AFC above half way thru. But still a downer it is, thus my reduction of one point (if I may) here.

6. VOLTAGE LOSS ~10/10

Silver plated contacts, what do you expect! In line with all hi-end Mods the bOd hits as hard. There is just the lowest of voltage drops if not near-zero when firing this beastly rocker. On a fully charged battery you can invariably hear your juice sizzle & crackle when pressing the top-cap. Put simply it's as good a firer as the Paps-LUX, Paps-X, Nemesis, Point Touch etc. Fit's in the same clique. Purrfect!

7. WOW FACTOR! ~10/10

Yes, many Mods perform well, hit hard, but do they all wow you? The bOd does. It looks fantastic courtesy the two-tone all thru finish, even the 'screws' holding the top-cap sections seem to be beautifying it... they are 'polished' in a 'satin' backdrop ~ and twinkle like stars! Coupled with the top mounted switch and the juice recycling system - this li'l gizmo is an exuberant attention seeker. Albeit a virtuous performer too! And it's not just me ~ every one of my folks who held it and used it were wowed by its looks and performance... so will you!

8. PRICE POINT ~10/10

At $190 (140€) the bOd is definitely in there amongst its class. Could be cheaper than a few in reality! For a quality made telescopic mod, built like a tank (yeah we hear that a lot, but this actually is), incorporating some unique features (explained above) and garbed in a classy leather pouch ~ the bOd is a hi-end device which is priced right√

OVERALL SCORE ~9.8/10 (An exemplary device!)

An overtly small but versatile Mod - the bOd is many things which many others are not√ There is something about it that draws me to it every time I have to pick up a Mod... and I have many! It looks so at home with all of my toppers that I infrequently keep switching my attys over it ~ to have a ball. The four screws add an industrial look to it ~ but all the while its fit & finish maintains a sort of elegance and poise ~ the bOd typically is a stylish device! Something you got to hold it to feel the panache. This one is a 'keeper' and I'm loving it!

Beware of the Dwarf, eh!
Thank you 'By Leo' for making this happen

Excellent review Q! I love my BoD. I was under the impression that the additional sleeves were exactly yhat. I thought they filled the gap when using 18500/18650 batteries.

Thats cool that it can be a sectional mod as well. I also want to add, that the Mecha is an amazing creation. So unique and extremely impressive!

I ordered the Atlas MECHA and the bOd so I can switch back and forth. Guess I will have to order a couple of fixed rings as I do not care for telescoping mods.

Great review and looking forward to receiving by next weekend. Did not realize I could have used the optional currier service and had it this weekend.
