lol tibs. I scanned the thread. He got 24 hours out of his build. It sounds like you should contact the vendor on this and see what they say.....

I usually get 12-18 hours out of my current set of 14500's on my 5 volt mod... and it uses a plain old regulator (it's not a switching reg, nor is it vv). So.... IDK.

From that link to the mod I'd guess he used a TI or OKR switching regulator. I've used both and they are good, cool running and efficient. The switch looks like a basic horn switch which is used often. I've built several with this those configurations and battery life with 14500s is very good. Unless there is a short somewhere or a issue with the regulator I don't think that would be the problem. As you probably already know if you're using DC that cut down on battery life due to the current they pull also LR will effect battery life some but shouldn't be that bad. If your using DC or LR with 14500 size batteries I'd recommend getting IMR batteries, they are capable of higher current draws.

Also the regulator as the vendor said does pull a little current when not in use but it's so little that it doesn't effect battery life overall. I turn mine off at night or when I'm going to pocket or transport them, otherwise they are on.

Where I'd recommend starting first is your current batteries and charger. If you have a multimeter check the batteries voltage fresh off the charger to make sure the charger is functioning properly.

thanks, nomore - the batteries were bought with the mod so are about 3 weeks old and are supposed to be genuine trustfires 900mah. i'm still working with the charger from my epower - definitely not the best - batteries take forever to charge .....

i just might have to see if i can figure out my dh's multimeter ;)

the link to todd's thread - looks like he just joined ecf as a supplier

OK, so I ordered some vv parts (came today... Whooo Hoooo!!!!!) and I ordered a 3.2 ohm Bauway atty with it just for kicks.

Put it on the meter. 3.3 ohms (zeroed out 1st). OK. Good. Now, vaping it at 5 volts. Rocks. We'll see if it holds up for my usual month+. That's the vape I was after. Not the 2.4ish ohm crap they sent me. Oh well. Now I get to assemble my vv kit and vape up the 2.4's too.

So, how's it working out for you? Have you built your VV box and gotten those attys performing to your expectations?

I'm actually going to order a higher end VV tomorrow... but it isn't the VV feature I'm after. I've been watching the progress of the VVPV thread in notcigs forum section since buzzkill started hinting about the product. - That one is a metal top feeder. Those are the features I've been after: Metal and Top Feeder. I had a top feed box about a year ago and I liked it quite a bit. But, as with almost every plastic box mod I've ever had, it was crushed to pieces by an unruly steer (took over an hour to pick all the plastic shards out of my left pectoral muscle). I've had top feeders on my mind ever since then. This will be the first metal top-feeder I've seen, so since it is now officially released, it jumped to the top of my "going to buy" list.

There are only a couple of devices left on my "going to buy" list and this purchase could eliminate one of those. If I end up liking it, then I probably won't be buying a REO Grand to go with my REO mini. If I don't like it, I'm sure someone in the classifieds will appreciate a good deal on it or maybe even trade me for a REO Grand. So, though expensive, I think I'm in a win/win situation. After that, it's just the megalodon. Then I will completely run out of mods I want to buy.

That is an interesting looking mod.
I like the built in usb charger feature.

Not as well as I would have liked. I broke my own rule about "order two of everything" and I think I fried the one and only IC. Not sure. Need to get back to it. Could be a cold joint somewhere (doubtful) or something else. Anyway... should have been a simple vv build... not working. Need to debug it. The IC won't fit into a breadboard without an adapter....sigh. I should always breadboard 1st, even on simple builds......

Sucks about the plastic box shrapnel. Sorry to hear that. The metal box should be a lot more sturdy. IDK about that whole feeding stuff. I just drip. A lot of people love feeders. I've just never gotten into them. Cool for you.

The main electronics question I'd ask myself about any vv mod is "What regulator is in that and what is the max amp draw?" Other than that its a form and function decision. Hope the mods work out well for ya.
