Hi the coils i make taste bad. Not so bad, just not good. not really a metallic taste, just not so good. i has 32g kanthal 2mm silica 3mm silica .99 nicrome. when i rebuild nova heads i dont use nr wire and it tastes ugly. Not so ugly, just not good. never tried it with nr wire except the replacement heads i buy are good cept for a few DOA ones. On my aga-t i tried silica wick and each attempt i spread out the coils more because it burns too fast for it to wick and i keep coil horizontal like most builds ive seen. just tastes nasty.not so nasty, just bad.

I have had the same problem as you others on this forum suggested washing my hands real good so no oils get on the coils. I have taken it a step further and use disposable gloves when making mine and seems to work real good just takes more time to do because the gloves get in the way sometimes.
Yeah, the ones I make are great and work without batteries, well not so great and with batteries, just not without batteries.
Have you tried torching your silica with a lighter first?

Wash hands. Burn resistance wire with lighter. Make sure your wraps are tight. Do a few mouth hits without inhaling/give it a while to break in.
How long would you give it before you trashed it and started over? Cause my first attempt (and only so far) has also produced a flavor that I don't like. Hard to explain but it is not acceptable. My hands are clean and nothing is getting contaminated when I did build the coil. But I did not oxidize my wire or torch my silica. I dunno???
Try a new one step by step...take your time...check for hot spots...let it break in
Vivi novas can be a pain to rebuild. I make coils a bit bigger than factory and I pry the wick slot apart a little to increase wicking. Then I wrap a coil using a paper clip to help. I then slide the wick paper clip and coil in and insert the gromet and positive piece making sure the wires are where I want them near both ends. You can then dry burn and check for hot legs or coils not glowing right or too much. Then if it's ok I fill it up and break it in.
yeah try torching your wick and wire first. then after you build the coil and make sure theres no hot spots. put a couple of drops of juice on your wick and burn it off with out hitting it. do that a couple of times before filling and inhaling
