So I have had an ego tank system laying around for a couple days and just let it sit there, whilst I pondered the meaning of life. I was (and still am) a skeptic. However, I think that all things should be given a fair shot and as such here are my thoughts (for better or worse) on the tank system.

What I did to start:
I blew out all the primer I could. First observation was that there was alot of it. Kept blowing until I was fairly sure that most of it I could get out was gone. Then I cleaned the atty. Both sides and very thoroughly with a cotton swab and a tissue. I then filled up an unpierced cartridge with a 100% PG tobacco juice. I inserted the cartridge until I heard the telling "click" sound and let it sit for about 1 min. Then I twisted the cartridge around several times to make sure the membrane on the cartridge was open enough for juice flow. Before I even turned the battery on, I gave 4 sharp, hard pulls on it and then turned the battery on and started to vape.

I got very little (if any) primer taste, which impresses me. I attribute this to not only the system, but that I cleaned it well before starting. It took about 1 full tank for it to really feel like I was getting as good of a performance as a stock eGo. When it did start working it was pretty impressive.

So, how does it vape?

Flavor: My impression is that flavor is cleaner. I would not say there was more of it, just that it was not the same. I have read several revues that have said the flavor isbetter than a regular eGo. I'm not sure I agree with that or not. I think cleaner is a more accurate description (for me anyway). I felt like there is less of it, but what is there is I guess cleaner is the only way I can think of to describe it. Only once have a got any kind of dry hit off of it, and when I did I gave it another 4 hard sharp draws. Problem solved.

Throat Hit: My impression is that TH is diminished (even with 100% PG juice). Perhaps it's an unfair comparison, but I was vaping it side by side (same juice) with an eGo XL LR atty. I feel that the TH was still less than I get out of a normal 510 atty. With a substantially longer pull on it I was able to come close to the feeling of the LR atty, but it wasn't quite the same kick.

Vapor: The vapor production was good, at least on par with stock eGo performance. I noticed that my exhale vapor was thicker (or at least seemed to be) than I would expect to see off of a stock eGo. The vapor was plenty good for me.

Juice consumption: This thing is a bloody juice burning (vaping?) machine. I could definitely notice I was consuming more juice than I normally would. To be quite honest, I am not sure if this is due to being more efficient or what. But I very much believe these things go through juice faster than other PVs. There is alot of speculation as to how that could possibly be, but I won't debate the scientific aspects of that here. I am definitely sure that it is not from how much I was using it. I measured out 1ml of juice twice and vaped that quantity through both the tank, and a standard 510 atty direct dripping. I would have thought the direct dripping would go up faster, that was not what happened. I would be curious if anyone else has done a comparison like this and what their results were.

Leaking potential: I have not had a single leak while in normal or heavy use. However, I did leave it sitting tank side up for about an hour and a half and it leaked all over the damn place. About a half a tanks worth of liquid. So, I would suggest disconnecting the tank during storage or while not in use for an extended period of time.

Juice switching: Juice switching with the tank has been difficult for me so far. I have noticed that it may take a tank or two of your new liquid to make the old taste fully vanish. A note about menthol as well, menthol seems to linger longer in the atty than with a regular 510. I have not given a tank atty any other cleaning beside blowing it out, so as far as that works to purge flavor I can't say. I have blown it out, however and even after doing that the flavor (especially menthol) seems to linger.

I am sure that I am leaving something out, and I may edit this post if more things stick out for me.

But in closing I will say, that I do like it and I am sure the technology will be refined further. I don't think this will replace direct dripping on an LR atty, but this thing does have a place in my vaping arsenal.

Cheers,
VMS

Very well thought out and constructive review. It was a good read. :)

I've been reading about and contemplating the tank system for a while now, and while I have still not purchased any yet, I do know that I will not stop dripping while vaping. For me, if the tanks perform to spec. I will be using them primarily while driving. Right now I use cartos while driving, but have been struggling with my CE-2's.

I'm still on the fence with this one, and am almost waiting for a version 2.0, or a full release version that will work with my current 510 attys. This will save the hassle of buying separate attys for the tanks and my 510 stuff.

Thanks for a good review!

Mr. Smith,

For the most part, you review was spot-on with my results. Although, I don't feel like I am using anymore juice than I was with boge 510 lr carto's.

In reference to leaking, I have had none. I've laid it on its side overnight, stood the battery (ego 650mah) on its end, also overnight, and no leaking--I can't make it leak(this is with 3 different tank atties). However, my cousin in Florida has had all kinds of leaking problems--I think it may have something to do with the spike hole in the atty...it may be a tad too small compared to the size of the hole in the tank.

I'm really interested in how this is going to perform when I use it on a provari at a higher voltage. By the way, what type of battery did you use the tank system on?

cheers,

gatorfan,

I agree with you about the leaking. I was very surprised that it only leaked on me that once. In all fairness I have not tried that with different tank cartridges. I think the one that leaked was the second one I used.

I have used the tank atty with the stock (650 mah), the long (900 mah), the extra long (1000 mah) eGo batts. I can't tell any performance difference for the three types of batteries. Except of course when they are running very low and then the performance drop applies to all three.

Cheers,

Good review. I just got mine yesterday, and it DID seem to me that I was going through a LOT of juice FAST. I vaped two tanks in about two hours. I like them. I'm still experimenting, but my first instincts were that I was losing a little flavor. It does feel cleaner...and it could be just because it's a little cooler vape than when I use the 2.0 ohm cartos that I've been hooked on. I used it on my 40 minute drive to work, and it was great. Oh, I also really like that I can actually see my juice level without having to take a cart off to check. I'm liking it a lot overall. Very, very convenient. I'm using a 1000mAh eGo-T batt....a very snazzy looking set-up, I must say.

Great review, well said. Cant think of anything Id add or disagree with. Especially about the juice usage..does seem to eat it up quick....2 thumbs up on that review.

The Big Chief,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I have followed several posts that you have written and they all had me nodding my head in agreement.

VMS,

You're one of those Heinlein freaks, aren't you?
I completely blame SIASL for warping me at an early age.

Just so I'm somewhat on topic, I'm trying to decide if I want an eGo tank or a VV device first.

Enid,

Robert Anson Heinlein is (IMO) the greatest sci-fi author in this nation's history. I believe that "Stranger in a Strange Land", "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress", and "For Love Eternal..." should all be required reading before anyone is allowed to graduate High School (at least college). Whenever I find myself wondering why people are behaving irrationally, I pick up my copy of Stranger and remember the fact that most humans (myself included, I am not immune to cultural indoctrination either) are irrational most of the time. I find it especially interesting that our culture seems to condone watching violence on television or in the media, and yet a naked human body is considered evil or bad or wrong or some other such nonsense. I truly hope that we change before we destroy ourselves, alas I fear we may not.

Now that I am off my soapbox, I am really really eyeballing a Provari. I am not sure if I can justify that kind of expense though. I am trying my hardest to talk myself into it and I fear that I will be successful soon. Having said that it is hard to beat the convenience that a tank system can offer. Most likely I will end using some VV at home and carrying around about 10 full tanks and 2 batteries when I go somewhere for an extended period of time.

Never be ashamed of being warped by Heinlein. :)

Cheers,
VMS
