So I have had an ego tank system laying around for a couple days and just let it sit there, whilst I pondered the meaning of life. I was (and still am) a skeptic. However, I think that all things should be given a fair shot and as such here are my thoughts (for better or worse) on the tank system.
What I did to start:
I blew out all the primer I could. First observation was that there was alot of it. Kept blowing until I was fairly sure that most of it I could get out was gone. Then I cleaned the atty. Both sides and very thoroughly with a cotton swab and a tissue. I then filled up an unpierced cartridge with a 100% PG tobacco juice. I inserted the cartridge until I heard the telling "click" sound and let it sit for about 1 min. Then I twisted the cartridge around several times to make sure the membrane on the cartridge was open enough for juice flow. Before I even turned the battery on, I gave 4 sharp, hard pulls on it and then turned the battery on and started to vape.
I got very little (if any) primer taste, which impresses me. I attribute this to not only the system, but that I cleaned it well before starting. It took about 1 full tank for it to really feel like I was getting as good of a performance as a stock eGo. When it did start working it was pretty impressive.
So, how does it vape?
Flavor: My impression is that flavor is cleaner. I would not say there was more of it, just that it was not the same. I have read several revues that have said the flavor isbetter than a regular eGo. I'm not sure I agree with that or not. I think cleaner is a more accurate description (for me anyway). I felt like there is less of it, but what is there is I guess cleaner is the only way I can think of to describe it. Only once have a got any kind of dry hit off of it, and when I did I gave it another 4 hard sharp draws. Problem solved.
Throat Hit: My impression is that TH is diminished (even with 100% PG juice). Perhaps it's an unfair comparison, but I was vaping it side by side (same juice) with an eGo XL LR atty. I feel that the TH was still less than I get out of a normal 510 atty. With a substantially longer pull on it I was able to come close to the feeling of the LR atty, but it wasn't quite the same kick.
Vapor: The vapor production was good, at least on par with stock eGo performance. I noticed that my exhale vapor was thicker (or at least seemed to be) than I would expect to see off of a stock eGo. The vapor was plenty good for me.
Juice consumption: This thing is a bloody juice burning (vaping?) machine. I could definitely notice I was consuming more juice than I normally would. To be quite honest, I am not sure if this is due to being more efficient or what. But I very much believe these things go through juice faster than other PVs. There is alot of speculation as to how that could possibly be, but I won't debate the scientific aspects of that here. I am definitely sure that it is not from how much I was using it. I measured out 1ml of juice twice and vaped that quantity through both the tank, and a standard 510 atty direct dripping. I would have thought the direct dripping would go up faster, that was not what happened. I would be curious if anyone else has done a comparison like this and what their results were.
Leaking potential: I have not had a single leak while in normal or heavy use. However, I did leave it sitting tank side up for about an hour and a half and it leaked all over the damn place. About a half a tanks worth of liquid. So, I would suggest disconnecting the tank during storage or while not in use for an extended period of time.
Juice switching: Juice switching with the tank has been difficult for me so far. I have noticed that it may take a tank or two of your new liquid to make the old taste fully vanish. A note about menthol as well, menthol seems to linger longer in the atty than with a regular 510. I have not given a tank atty any other cleaning beside blowing it out, so as far as that works to purge flavor I can't say. I have blown it out, however and even after doing that the flavor (especially menthol) seems to linger.
I am sure that I am leaving something out, and I may edit this post if more things stick out for me.
But in closing I will say, that I do like it and I am sure the technology will be refined further. I don't think this will replace direct dripping on an LR atty, but this thing does have a place in my vaping arsenal.
Cheers,
VMS
