Didn't want to put the T word in the title, but now Martin McKee wants vapers to be classified as terrorists. A double, even a triple, facepalm does not suffice...

I'm good with that. I'm already a racist (for wanting lower taxes and small government), sexist (for being male) and homophobe (for being a heterosexual male). What's another BS label gonna hurt.

Seriously, did that idiot just claim that nicotine should be regulated solely because it could be used to increase the lethality of BULLETS????

I mean did i seriously just read that, there are really educated adults in this world that are that crazy/stupid?

Un****ing real.

... Aaaaaand he gets paid to come up with nonsense like this.

Nice work if you can get it. No wonder the hacks are so protective of the status quo.

What idiots! There are far more lethal toxins, far more easily obtained, and far safer for handling than nicotine. Any would-be poison-bullet creator would stand a much higher risk of killing themselves with pure nicotine than ever creating a successful weapon.

In contrast, metal-based compounds, such as those used for treating wood or anti-fouling agents for boats, are easily purchased from any local hardware store, and come in solid form, which makes them far safer to handle, and are thermally stable. There's also a wide selection of insecticides and rodenticides on the same aisles of the same hardware stores, all much more easily obtained than nicotine; also cheaper and with greater feasibility for whatever nefarious purposes... Picking on nicotine like this is beyond ridiculous, it shows nothing but rabid fanaticism and malicious persecution of nicotine users.

LOL, what is this? Science?

Martin McKee is a public-health expert. Science is beneath him.

The perceived threat of terrorism has persuaded people to accept more and more constraints on their liberties. (...) The justification for these constraints is the need to take any measure that might possibly reduce the risk of terrorism.
The writer of that article seems to find no irony or cause for concern in those statements. That alarms me.

At the time of writing it is still not clear whether Breivik did inject his bullets with nicotine and, even if he had, it is likely that the temperature achieved by a bullet being fired would have degraded much of it, but it is inevitable that his words will attract others considering similar actions and who will devise alternative, and more reliable means of delivery.
Perhaps these people could have solved that great mystery by asking someone who knows firearms? You can put whatever liquid (and many solids) you want in the cavity of a bullet. Even if it survives the temperature and pressure of ignition, it won't last for more than a few inches of travel past the muzzle.

This is just truly surreal. However, it also shows just how hard the opposition is grasping at straws.

Ah, but what if the terrorists decide to take up nicotine-flavored archery! Haha, you have no answer to that, do ya smarty pants?!?

OH. MY. ****ING. GOD.

Does anyone have a picture of the entire population of planet Earth, gathered in one place, face-palming while uttering the word "......" in unison?

Nothing else will do this article justice.

The only upside I can see, now, is that if McKee shows his face in any news article with comments allowed, he will be ROADKILL. All you have to do is link to this article to demonstrate that McKee is a rabid, monomaniac anti-nicotine crusader, prepared to dredge up any available scare tactic that might bring about his dream of a world without nicotine. All the scientific posturing, all the "concerns" - it's all gone. McKee's credibility, though disadvantaged by a late start, is now chasing hard after Glantz's - down the gurgler.

Next time you see an article quoting McKee - just do it folks! You know you want to...

To really understand the man and his motivation: any time you read anything he says, just add "NICOTINA DELENDA EST!" afterwards.

Wait! They selected nicotine because the LD50 is so low? They'll be needing to write a retraction once they find out that the currently cited LD50 has been tremendously underestimated and is at least 10 times and possibly 20 times too low.
