Hello ECF,

I've started my thread series entitled "The Newbie Connoisseur" in a humourous spirit as a place for all to share their serious thoughts on the best way of achieving good personal vaping results, without running through unnecessary hardware and liquids. Unfortunately, my first thread, although hot, was shut down over some flaming and debate on the semantics of the term "connoisseur". A title is just a title. My thanks to elmattias, stereodreamer and sonso who saw the honest purpose of my message there, and shared some good advice. A discussion was starting to take shape.

Continuing on that note, I'd like to ask the community for some thoughts on the subject of dripping. This is one thing I have not tried with much effort. I've dripped a little on the drip tip that comes with my Lava, but I'm not sure how to do it, or what to expect. Could somebody be kind enough to share their insights into the benefits of drip vs tank and the best way to do it?

I'm particularly concerned it might be too much effort for someone who chain vapes, constantly, as I do.

Thanks in advance,

Hi again! I like dripping a lot to test new flavors. I also find it relaxing when I'm stressed, since it requires focus. My favorite set up is a LR306 atty and a Cannon drip tip. Cannons have a really big opening, so it's hard to miss. I don't even have to wear my glasses!. Cherry Vape (who developed the Cannon) sells the set for about $20.00, but you can get (what I imagine are clones) for a lot less at Copper Creek. I still have the attys I bought in August (I got three and rotate them, so they last longer), from Vixen Vapors for about $8.00. I have a link somewhere with good dripping tips, I'll see if I can find it.

i enjoy dripping alot, especially to test flavors.. and sometimes when i dont want to run a flavor for very long.. most of the time im using a carto tank just to keep me going but sometimes i have to push through a tank of a flavor or mix i dont care for.... dripping is not dead by any means sometimes sitting on my couch ill drip while watching TV but it just gets old dripping 3 drops getting 5 vapes from it then dripping more... plus i think i run through more juice dripping vs using my tanks (never actually tested just thought)

I used to drip exclusively when at home. The problem I had was that some flavors are really tough to clear before dripping a new flavor which resulted in some pretty bad combinations. I really didnt want to have to clean and/or dry burn whenever I wanted a different flavor. I still drip to try new flavors, but that is the extent of it for me. I now use genesis attys at home, which are extremely easy to swap flavors. Use a syringe to get the old juice out, quick burn to clear the ss mesh wick and refill with my new flavor.

The Far Side
Hi, new guy here! I've been using ecigs for over 6 months. I started my vaping journey with cartos, moved up to carto tanks, eventually switched to dripping on atties and now exploring rebuildable atomizer tanks. IMHO, carto tanks are really good in terms of convenience. Set it up, and just vape until the tank runs out. No fuss, no fuss, very little mess. Its a bit picky with the juices though, as some juices dont really taste good in a carto.

However, dripping is the ultimate in terms of flavor, which is really what I'm after. Depending on your atty, set up and juice, you can start tasting some flavor notes that you wouldn't be able to in a carto. Juices just taste brighter and better overall. The flip side is its a bit of a hassle to use. There's definitely a learning curve to using an atty effectively, although you probably would learn it in a couple of days. I drip three drops into my atty and that lasts me 6-8 good tokes (I'm a chain vaper, so YMMV). So yes there's some effort involved in that sense but completely worth it if your after flavor.

I carry around a bottle everywhere but if I'm somewhere its not convenient to drip, I switch to a carto. Not too much trouble as the bottles are small and i can just stuff the bottle into a pocket. Also, I rarely drip straight into a drip tip because sometimes the juice gets hung up inside the tip. So I usually take the tip off and drip straight into the atty.

So to my mind, use a carto if you're after convenience and drip if you're after flavor. Just keep in mind that the atty you use has a huge impact on the flavor, vapor and TH you get out of dripping. Not all atties are the same and IMHO, you get what you pay for.

part of the reason why dripping gives a better flavor is that the juice isnt muted down by wicking material. it goes pretty much straight to the coil.... that and besides cartridges, which went onto a atty, are the og way of vaping. my favorite is still dipping with a exposed bridge atty. but that is another topic
