Armageddon is a word that is recognized by everyone, whether they are Christian or non-believer. Movies have used the word in titles, without knowing what the word is really about. What they do know is that the word itself has been used to describe a time when the world ends, whether by war, a huge meteor, a tidal wave, etc. They think of the word as a cataclysmic end of the world scenario. But, Webster's Dictionary says:

Full Definition of ARMAGEDDON

1
a : the site or time of a final and conclusive battle between the forces of good and evil
b : the battle taking place at Armageddon

2
: a usually vast decisive conflict or confrontation

The first definition, a and b, are correct. It is a place where the last battle is before the Second Coming. It is not the name of the battle. Many people don't know this. From Scripture, it says:

Revelation 16:16(NKJV)
16 And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.[a]

Footnotes:
Revelation 16:16 M-Text reads Megiddo.

Zechariah 12:11(NKJV)
11 In that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning at Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.[a]

  1. Zechariah 12:11 Hebrew Megiddon

As you can see from the spelling above, all that is missing to the above name is Ar. IMO, I believe the Zechariah verse is a prophetic verse concerning Revelation 16:16. So the next time someone uses the word incorrectly, you now have the information at hand to gently educate and/or witness to them, if the Holy Spirit prompts you.
