Thinking about making my own juice...

I live in NY and I keep hearing about potential restrictions. I think I've heard that bottles of e juice don't stay fresh tasting for long. I'd like to stock up on juice just in case, but I dont want it going bad. This leads me to making my own. A big bottle of base juice should stay good forever if I'm correct. And it'll save me some money in the long run I figure. Where should I get flavorings? Would I just use ordinary food flavoring?

I think PG and VG probably have long shelf life but nicotine apparently has a shorter shelf life and I don't know about the flavorings. I did buy about 500ml of 48mg nic during a sale once and still need to stash the box somewhere cool in the basement. I think some refrigerate their nic.

DIY e-liquid

Meanwhile read their guide in the sticky threads and visit OneStopDIYShop.com - the Flavor Apprentice flavors are probably better for a beginner than Loranns. And any FA flavors they are missing can be bought at the Perfumer's Apprentice site where you can also find some recipes in the comments.

And in general no, you can't use ordinary food flavoring - it's not concentrated enough.

Thanks for the info. I'm a real DIY kinda guy, so it probably won't be long till I start making my own. I wonder if I could just get the pg/vg mix without nicotine and add the nicotine seperately as i need it. I'm a chemistry major so mixing solutions is not a problem, neither is storing things properly. I'd just love to have a huge jug of the mix so I won't have to worry about what laws are going to burden me next. If it's not one thing in NY its another.

thanks again for the help!

Should be pretty easy for you then. I started making DIY juice right from the start but I keep the recipes very simple (i.e. 1 flavor) I don't know if you can get PG/VG premixed as most people prefer to mix their own ratio's. So I've only seen each sold separately. I'm not sure the exact shelf life on mixed juice but I do know the general consensus with most DIY'ers is to let the juice "steep" for about a week to allow the different ingredients to diffuse and get the best flavor out of your mixes.

The "nic juice" is just nicotine in either PG or VG (or a mix of both) as well as varying mg strengths. For example, I bought a 60ml bottle of 60mg nic juice with a 50/50 mix of PG/VG. The extra PG/VG you add is just to dilute the nic juice to the desired strength for the batch (for example, I mix 18mg juice).

I'm a lab rat too so I'm eager to try it as well.

Use the calculator for figuring our how much nic to how much PG/VG with what amount of flavoring
Every flavor from every brand has its own recommended percentage - see the DIY section guide and other stickies, posts, recipes. See the calculator's recipes people have submitted. See the comments/recipes on flavors of Perfumer's Apprentice site.

This is the calculator with the recipes
eJuice Me Up - e-Juice e-Liquid Recipe Calculator

And you can find a variety of different calculators by searching Google for ejuice calculator or elquid calaculator

I certainly won't have a problem mixing pg/vg, i see they're both available fairly inexpensively from the diy e juice stores. I bet a lab supply would have them even cheaper. And the nicotine juice would be diluted with that? I assume I wouldn't use flavoring to dilute.

Shouldve read your post a little better silentsoldier, that sums it up pretty good.

I'm vaguely terrified of the thought of a NY ban, too. I can't believe the state that houses NYC has such ridiculous laws(including the stupid liquor laws. Bars here are open til 4am, why are they so strict on when stores can be open, etc?).

I've been vaping for a little over a month and have started experimenting. It's not terribly difficult. I am generally artistic and take to making most things quite well, but I can sense that mixing e-juice like some of the pros takes dedication I don't have. I greatly admire, for example, Geoff from Tasty Vapor's juices. That guy is a mad genius when it comes to flavor.

If you're satisfied with some of the more generic companies that don't really blend their own, then you're likely to be more than happy blending your own. Just be very careful and, of course, wear gloves. I personally wouldn't touch pure nicotine, but that's just me. Many suppliers offer it pre-suspended in PG and/or VG, and that'll make things a lot easier for you.

I'd just suggest not to add water. It baffles me that some juice makers do this, it yields inferior product and just seems like a bacteria playground to me.

Have fun! Do post about your experience after you've been playing around :)

Don't start with mixing your own until you've gotten more familiar with the vaping world. Start off with baby steps.

WTH? why you telling people that notrab13?

i mean yes, you need to understand nicotine and dangers of full strenghth and dilluting the stuff----- but i say "GO FOR IT" jump in with both feet -- i mean if you can make a good cup of "INSTANT COFFEE" in the morning then you can make some killer e-juice

** remind you -- you dont take a spoonfull of instant coffee granuals and eat it straight --- same with 60-100mg ejuice ---- and one can add too much sugar and cream to make the coffee tast terrible

so, the ingredients are different ---- and the rules are slightly different and more strict than coffee making is ---- but its roughly the same thing

if you have questions --- ask --- most are willing to help --- just use common since and everything will be just fine

notrab13 does have one valid point ---- not everybody can mix there own juice ---- but they prolly cant make a cup of instant coffee either

I bought my EC about a year ago and did a bunch of research then. I was stupid though. I set it aside and just picked it up again 2 months ago. Im now 2 months tobacco free!! :)
The first time I looked into all this stuff, people were saying the same thing about bans, ect. I cant help but wonder if any of it is actually true. Good luck to you!!

You can buy everything at ecigexpress, or Voidmist. DIY is 100x cheaper then buying juice out there, they are really making a killing mixing your stuff in a bathtub and mailing it too you. Might as well mix it in your own bathtub.

Research the prices, people here love to recomend seriously overpriced vendors to you. Look around.

I found the PG and VG in bulk on the web but I can't seem to find a source for liquid nicotine. Anybody have suggestions? Im a licensed wholesaler already so any source will work. Doesn't have to be retail. Thanks....

nicvape.com is the cheapest I've seen, I haven't used it yet but I picked up 1L of 100mg earlier and it looks as pure as the stuff I've been getting from myfreedomsmokes.com (also good prices).

As for being cheaper, I'd say it's both cheaper and more expensive depending on the type of person you are. While it is much cheaper to mix your own, that's only true if you find one or two flavors you like and stick with those. People, like me, that enjoy experimenting will buy tons of supplies and flavorings, most of which will probably end up unused, which could make it actually cost more (due to wasted supplies, and constantly buying more). Of course, could always offset the costs like I do by mixing custom flavors for friends and being your own local dealer!
